Coordinator Cancer Registry – Cancer Registry

This is a Contract position in Durham, NC posted May 29, 2020.

The Cancer Registry Coordinator directs and monitors the daily operations and workflow of Cancer Registry staff including data collection, coding and data entry; analyzing, editing cancer patient data; orientation and training.

The Cancer Registry Coordinator assists with abstracting, case finding and follow up to ensure meeting department goals and objectives.

The Cancer Registry Coordinator supports quality control activities, information requests and quality studies; treatments and outcome information for quality improvement activities, administrative planning,, marketing and outreach programs as requested.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities are as follows.

1.1 Maintains an environment of safety for patients, self and others.

1.2 Demonstrates a working knowledge of all Cancer Registry job duties.

Participates in case findings, abstracting, coding of patients and cancer related information, treatment, staging and follow up for all cancer patients seen and/or diagnosed to meet team goals.

1.3 Monitors the daily workflow and work assignments to ensure compliance with key performance indicators.

Ensures completeness, accuracy and timeliness of case findings, abstractions and follow up activities of the Cancer Registry.

Provides support for team to ensure goals are met and collaborates with Manager to review and improve processes and training needs.

1.4 Coordinates with Manager training and orientation of cancer registry staff.

Identifies training needs based on quality review findings and trends to ensure data quality and compliance with NC and CoC requirements.

Works with team to improve the accuracy, integrity and quality of abstracts; ensures minimal variation in abstraction practices and improves the quality of documentation within the body of the abstract.

1.5 Collaborates with the Manager to flex and coordinate staffing, work schedule, and workflow for optimal utilization and productivity.

Works with Manager to ensure sufficient staffing to meet departmental needs.

Assists in hiring process and orientation of new coworkers to ensure all registry requirements are met.

1.6 Leads and participates in departmental team meetings, committees and/or tasks force(s) as required.

1.7 Assists Manager to perform and/or coordinate quality audits on registry data to ensure compliance with ACoS CoC and NAPBC standards and to ensure national evidence-based guidelines and coding principles are used for complete, timely, accurate and consistent abstractions and to preserve data integrity.

1.8 Assists Manager to develop, implement and maintain policies and procedures for the cancer registry.

Assists in the development and implementation of changes to Cancer Registry policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation changes.

1.9 Assists Manager to ensure timely reporting of cancer incidence data to NC Central Cancer Registry (NCCCR), RQRS and National Cancer Database.

1.10 Maintains patient computer data to ensure conformance to ACoS requirements and to meet the needs of the users.

Preserves the confidentiality and security of patient data stored in the tumor registry database.

1.11 Maintains current CTR credentials and proficiencies including: all data quality standards, coding guidelines, policies and procedures, and resources to ensure coding knowledge and skills remain current.

Participates in educational activities at local, state and national tumor registrar associations.

Keeps abreast of changes in reference materials and current literature relative to tumor registry.

Attends continuing education programs; and demonstrates a working knowledge of new and revised procedures for compliance with accrediting agencies and the state cancer registry.

1.12 Acts as liaison for outside organizations and associations like the American Cancer Society, the NC Advisory Committee on Cancer Coordination and Control, the NCCCR and state and national professional organizations.

1.13 Prepares statistical reports; provides data on cancer patient populations as requested.

Prepares narrative reports and graphic presentations; designs tables, charts and graphs of tumor registry data for special studies and annual report as requested.

Assists with CoC Special Studies as assigned.
