Controls Engineer or Automation Engineer

Geospace Technologies Corporation

This is a Full-time position in Houston, TX posted November 10, 2021.

Searching for an Automation/Controls engineer that can hit the ground running.

This person would be the key player in keeping our machines in manufacturing up and running as well as helping to implement new machines that we add to the mix as we create exciting new products.

Our Automation team is small and everyone has their part to play in the Geospace Automation family.

Function:

To provide daily support for PLC, VFD and SCADA issues and design and implementation of equipment upgrades, improvements, and troubleshooting.

Scope:

Responsible for equipment support, defining and developing new projects and meeting the budget and delivery criteria on projects.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Troubleshooting any control issues in the facility.
Maintaining accurate documentation of all projects.
Development of SCADA reports and managing the SCADA system.
Maintain programs for all PLCs onsite
Maintain all drive program onsite.
Complete understanding of ladder Logic and its application
Other duties as assigned by department manager
Skills/Experience:

Professional:
B.S.

Electrical Engineering
5 or more years experience
Ability to program and troubleshoot Allen Bradley PLCs ( Compact and Control Logix, SLC500, Micrologix) using RSLogix5000/500
Ability to troubleshoot industrial electrical control panels and associated relays and hardware.
Familiarity with electronics and electronic signals 4-20mA, , +-10Vdc analog for speed and position control.
Experience with:
HMIs and software, AB Power flex, Emerson/Control Techniques VFD’s
Multimeters and other test equipment for hardware testing and troubleshooting.
Management and documentation of programs and wiring diagrams of new and existing equipment
Skilled in Microsoft Office suite to prepare reports, procedures and presentations.
Personal:
Ability to thrive in fast-paced environment; focus on the critical path; exert positive influence on non-staff to gain support for goals
Self-awareness (vision, communication style, motivation, personal and professional goals).

Strong written/verbal communications skills, comfortable with speaking to groups.
Understanding and experience in land and marine seismic industry, cable manufacturing and/or printed circuit board assembly a plus.
Nice-to-Haves:

Experience with FANUC 6 axis robot programming and configuration

XYZ gantry type robotics,

Ethernet/IP industrial communications,

Devicenet and ASi networks,

industrial wireless networks,

SCADA,

Eurotherm,

KB or smaller DC drive types.

Siemens S7 PLCs and VFDs,

Keyence CVX, IV and other vision systems.

Education:

BSEE or BS EET required, Applicant should have 5 years or more of experience in a manufacturing controls role.

General manufacturing safety practices will be followed when working in those areas.
