JOB SUMMARY The Automation Controls Technician provides hands-on technical expertise to the Automation Department.
This position is responsible for, but not limited to, startup support, and FAT support for controls hardware and programming of control systems.
This position also is responsible for supporting customers through technical support as well as service calls to customer sites.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Project Startup/Commissioning Support at Customer Plants Perform the following: Power, network, and I/O checks from field to HMI Configuration, setup, and calibration of instrumentation, components, VFDs, industrial networking, etc.
Troubleshooting of control system issues during startup and/or commissioning Assist with coordination of other contractors, customer and Cybertrol team Field Control Panel Modifications and Project Electrical Installation Inspections Perform modifications within new and/or existing control panels at customer plants Installation and wiring of control components wire duct, terminal blocks, etc.
Perform inspections of control panel/system electrical installations to ensure that such systems are at a ready state for startup / commissioning Provide training that is limited to troubleshooting, control device operation/maintenance, etc.
Interface with customers directly to support project goals Continuous Improvement
– Provide feedback and/or recommendations for improvement to Cybertrol Engineering/Design groups.
Control Panel Production/FAT Panel Shop Fabrication Inspection
– Spot check fabrication prior to pre-FAT setup.
Make sure that panel has been constructed per design and following best practices Pre-FAT Setup
– Continuity checks, power-on checks, pneumatic checks, etc.
FAT
– Ensure IT has loaded switch configuration, flash components, load PLC program for module/network configuration, configure devices (VFDs, I/Ps, Network Valve Banks, etc.), test I/O points per FAT checklist.
If HMI is available, verify I/O from TB in control panel to HMI device object.
Customer Support and Interfacing Assist the Cybertrol Customer Support Team through troubleshooting efforts at customer plants and remotely through VPN QUALIFICATIONS Required Associates Degree in relative discipline (I&C Tech, E&M Tech, Auto Eng Tech, etc.) 2 years of experience relative to the Automation/Controls Technician job description Knowledge of NFPA/UL standards as they apply to Panel Fabrication, wiring (color and sizing), electrical safety, etc.
Basic PLC/Control System programming/troubleshooting Follow and read Electrical schematics, Process Flow Diagrams, P&IDs Be able to use multimeters, RTD simulators, Process Meters, Network test equipment Willingness to travel up to 75% Preferred Relative certifications (CSIA controls/instrumentation tech, etc.) Knowledgeable in processes within the food, dairy, and beverage manufacturing industries PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS Travel to industrial manufacturing facilities.
Construction Area site work around construction equipment and personnel.
Working around production equipment and production personnel.
Work in hot or cold areas.
Work in noisy areas.
Work up and down stairs, ladders, indoors and outdoors.
Electrical/Instrumentation Device Checkout and Troubleshooting.
Includes voltage testing.
Working and interfacing with operations, engineering, equipment supply, and construction personnel.
Typical Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) Required: Safety Glasses, Steel Toed shoes, hearing protection, and electrical safety PPE.
