Spin

This is a Full-time position in CA posted May 6, 2020.

At Spin, we believe in innovation through policy.

Spin’s Policy organization is essential in creating and advancing regulations, policies, and strategic initiatives to make micro-mobility part of our urban fabric.

In the United States, Spin helped create the first major micromobility permit, the first micromobility-led MaaS consortium, and the first tangible safe-streets project.

As we grow in new and existing markets, we continue to work to ensure that Spin is the industry leader in helping to shape and promote responsible and thoughtful approaches to how micromobility can affect positive changes to our streets, our environment, and our transportation networks.

We are looking for a Vice President of Policy to lead, scale, and mentor our Policy organization, which encompasses our public policy, policy initiatives, and public affairs teams.

Our public policy team focuses on legislative, regulatory, and high-stakes priorities at the local, state, federal, and international levels; our policy initiatives team designs and implements industry-leading projects to advance key issues like sustainability, equity, and infrastructure; and our public affairs team helps develop communications messaging, build support and catalyze action in pursuit of our policy priorities and to make micromobility a sustainable, beneficial partner to our communities.

You are a highly experienced leader who is not afraid to make tough decisions.

You have an analytical and strategic mindset.

You can quickly prioritize your time, the company’s resources, and rally the company around high-impact initiatives and efficient growth.

You have a passion for sustainability, politics, urban planning, mobility, and leveraging tech for good.

You should be available for frequent travel.

Responsibilities: Lead the Policy organization and work cross-functionally to set and achieve Spin’s policy priorities across all teams.

Keep Spin and Ford leadership informed on key policy developments.

Formulate public policy, public affairs, and policy initiatives strategy, including for emerging and core business objectives, such as mobility hubs and international expansion.

Oversee the execution of an ambitious set of programs focused on sustainability, equity, and people-centric infrastructure.

Establish Spin as the industry thought leader.

Engage effectively and in good-faith with government officials and staff to advance Spin’s overall policy objectives.

Manage external consultants to pursue Spin’s policy objectives.

Represent Spin and the Policy team at a variety of events such as panels and conferences.

Lead Spin’s public-private partnership work with public
– and nonprofit-sector stakeholders.

Build best-in-class processes and reporting.

Qualifications: 12 combined years experience in public policy (including at the local, state, federal, and international levels), public affairs, policy research and initiatives, or similar.

Deep experience with urban transportation policy, including policy issues and stakeholder environment facing Spin’s global business.

Experience developing and implementing public affairs strategy, with a proven track record of results.

Excellent internal and external communication and writing skills.

Strong leadership experience and track record of growing and managing a team of policy professionals.

Experience working with large teams distributed across multiple countries.

Track record of managing successful legislative and regulatory efforts at the local, state, federal, and international levels.

A Bachelors degree required.

Preferred Qualifications: Passionate about advancing accessible, sustainable modes of personal mobility.

Law degree or advanced degree in a relevant field such as public policy or transportation planning from a top-tier school.

Experience working with or working within government and facilitating complex and sensitive conversations as part of high-stakes relationships, particularly on legislation and regulations.
