Vice President of Human Resources

This is a Full-time position in Shelton, CT posted October 28, 2021.

The Vice President of Human Resources is responsible for bringing the culture of New Castle Hotels & Resorts to life and for the overall strategy and administration of the Human Resource function across the Company’s Portfolio in the US and Canada.

You are responsible for developing and executing HR strategy in support of the overall business plan and strategic direction of the organization, specifically in the areas of talent acquisition, compensation, benefits, and associate relations.

You lead a dynamic HR team that works together closely to build culture, drive outcomes in the best interest of the Company and enable our associates to be their best.

Your success is measured by their success.

In the role of Vice President of Human Resources, you will be:

  • Keeper of the Culture: You embrace the New Castle Hotels & Resorts culture and are a role model for others to follow.

    Create, monitor, and enhance overall engagement and culture-building initiatives to ensure each member of our team understands and represents the best of who we are.

    Manage the development, update, and distribution of HR policies and procedures for the company and ensure policies are administered fairly, consistently, and in accordance with New Castle Standard Operating Procedures.

  • Chief Recruiter: You lead the development and implementation of an innovative, best-in-class recruitment strategy that will attract the best and brightest talent and help drive short-term and long-term recruitment and retention plans.

    Partner closely with Senior Leadership to execute key strategic initiatives that drive recruiting outcomes, including strengthening the New Castle brand, attracting top talent (colleges, career fairs, internships) and optimizing recruiting operations (processes, tools, systems, and technology).

  • Talent Development Guru: You work with our leadership team to attract great talent, and work with the entire organization to engage and develop them.

    Develop and mentor a highly effective team to ensure associates receive the guidance and tools needed to be successful.

    Provide guidance and leadership to the HR team; assist with resolution of HR issues including but not limited to compensation and benefit questions, and concerns.

  • Lead Supervisor: You provide constructive and timely performance evaluations and handle discipline and termination of employees in accordance with Company policy.

    Update and ensure compliance with the Corporate Handbook.

    Research, develop, and implement competitive compensation, benefits, performance appraisal, and employee incentive programs.

    Provide guidance and counsel to management relative to Company policies, performance concerns, and disciplinary actions.

  • Systems Optimizer: You evaluate systems utilized by HR department to maximize efficiencies and results.

    Monitor and evaluate all reporting functions to ensure proper planning for short
    – and long-term strategies, budgeting, and staffing.

  • Trend Analyzer: You maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.

    Apply this knowledge to communicate or recommend changes in policy, practice, and resources.

    Compile key HR metrics and data from a variety of sources, including HRIS, engagement surveys, exit interviews, competitors’ practices, and other sources.

    Analyze data and statistics for trends and patterns, prepare reports of data results, and present findings to Senior Leadership to help inform business decisions.

  • Legal Specialist: You maintain knowledge of laws, regulations, and best practices in employment law, human resources, and talent management.

    Monitor and ensure the Company’s compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; review, develop, and modify policies and practices to maintain compliance.

    Verify compliance with employment, benefits, insurance, safety, and other laws, regulations, and requirements.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Hospitality, Business, or related field
  • 8+ years in a Human Resources leadership role
  • Operational experience in Hospitality, preferred
  • Experience with union properties and Canadian properties, preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of all State and Federal employment laws and regulations.
  • Possess a stable and outgoing personality, with leadership characteristics, a proven self-starter, and effective communication skills.
  • Maintains composure, works well in stressful, high-pressure situations, and able to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately.
  • Effective in handling problems in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving problems as necessary.
  • Great team player with the ability to create excellent working relationships across the group.

    Collaborative approach with all departments.

  • Ability to break down barriers and resolve potential conflicts swiftly and effortlessly.
  • Familiarity with HR technologies including recruiting platforms, processes, digital outreach, and social media.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills to all levels of team members, management, and ownership.
  • Long hours sometimes required with some light physical work.
