JOB SUMMARYSmartStop® Self Storage is looking for an experienced, enthusiastic individual to join our talented group as an in our corporate office located in Ladera Ranch, CA.This position Payroll Manager, will be responsible for registering and setting up payroll in new jurisdictions as we continue our expand (currently based throughout the United States and Canada), while being accountable for accurate payroll processing and ensuring SOX and internal audit compliance.

This leader will ensure that payroll is processed accurately, efficiently, and timely and will ensure compliance with all country, federal, state, and local payroll and regulatory requirements.

This leader will also have ownership over the administration of payroll policies and procedures, regulations, and payroll tax compliance, partnering with HR, Accounting & Finance, and business leaders to drive standardization and optimization of all payroll policies and procedures.

This will include identification and implementation of control and compliance mechanisms and development of a payroll integration strategy for expansion and acquisitions and a successful plan for execution of these activities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIESManage setup of payroll for newly established entities and support expansion to new regions.Process all payroll procedures including: earnings, garnishments, tax withholding, bonus payments and deferred stock payments.Ensure the accurate and timely filing of payroll taxes, payments and other statutory information requests (DOL) in multiple jurisdictions.Manage relationships with third-party service providers (ADP, TALX).Collaborate with internal stakeholders (including HR, IT, Accounting, Legal, Store Operations, Tax and Internal Audit) to address complaints, support information requests, resolve problems/issues and implement change.Responsible for on-going maintenance and design specifications for ADP system updates.Stay current on changes to payroll processing policies, internal procedures and software updates.Partner and collaborate with Human Resources on various aspects, including onboarding new hires, terminations, and other changes impacting payroll.Collaborate with the Tax function on all payroll tax related matters and with General Accounting related to month-end close process.Perform and monitor internal controls related to payroll to comply with SOX and recommend improvements to optimize processesIdentifies and coordinates changes in policy and procedures governed by federal, state, and local laws that affect the global payroll functionResponsible for compliance with filing periodic returns and issuing W-2 and similar formsMaintain confidentiality of any payroll, private employee information and any proprietary information and ensures payroll information is secure.Implement new products and service offerings (ipay, paycard, etc.) QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIESExperience with ADP Workforce Now highly preferredTechnical Knowledge – Global tax withholding and reporting regulations, payroll tax accountingWorking knowledge of HRIS, payroll systems, and payroll tax filings is required.Strong leadership skills balanced with a willingness to play a ‘hands-on’ role.Commitment to accuracy and quality, with superior attention to detail.Strong process and procedure orientation for continuous process improvements.Highly proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or comparable work experienceStrong organizational, analytical, and oral and written communication skillsBe detailed oriented while multi-tasking in a fast-paced companyPossess creative thinking and ability to resolve issues BENEFITSCompetitive Compensation Package| Annual Bonus PotentialPosition isComprehensive Benefit Package | Medical plan | Dental plan | Vision planFlexible Spending Account401(K) with employer matchSupplemental life insurance | Short-term disability coverage PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
