Portfolio Decision Resource Lead M/F

JOB PURPOSE

Global Portfolio Decision Resources overarching objective is to ensure a robust valuation and prioritization of the R&D portfolio and make recommendations as to best optimize utilization of resources.

The team will work with key stakeholders in the R&D organization and the GBUs to provide support to leadership decision-making.

The team’s remit is to :

Ensure R&D asset valuation (including POS calculation, business case) is done in a rigorous and comparable basis across Sanofi, including the development of standard tools and an effective review process.

Provide challenge to project teams’ assumptions around probability of success and valuation, via

  • Quantitative analyses of previous Sanofi performance and external benchmarks, increase internal information available, leverage external Open-source information based on artificial intelligence approaches, identify new sources of data that can inform R&D quantitative analyses
  • Coordinating internal review/debate workshops from both R&D and commercial perspectives
  • Reviewing findings with external experts (where relevant) and internal senior leadership

Use advanced analytics to inform and shape decision making by Global Project Teams (GPTs) and senior leadership (e.g., stage gate analysis to determine optimal development strategy, scenario analysis, decision trees, etc.) and present these analytics at key Go/No go decisions at the IDCC.

Consolidate analyses into a holistic portfolio view for analysis (pipeline volume, continuity, value) with data visualization tools. Make recommendations as to optimize utilization of resources and facilitate trade-off discussion amongst senior leaders

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • The Portfolio Decision Resource (PDR) team is looking to add a team-oriented member to help execute on their mandate.

    As a leader within this group, you will gain exposure to all of Sanofi’s therapy areas and come to truly understand the ‘nuts and bolts’ of the business.

    You will develop a deep understanding of core products and a detailed view of their chances of technical and regulatory success and medical and commercial impact.

    The PDR lead main responsibilities are to objectively and consistently assess the value of our R&D portfolio for a given therapeutic area in order to provide investment recommendations and drive the value of our portfolio.

    As such you will support senior members of the Strategy team and have interaction with key stakeholders in R&D, commercial, finance, IA, legal.

    Your ability to conduct complex analyses, present findings, and help facilitate decision-making will be key to the group’s success

Work with Global Project Teams to understand key R&D and commercial assumptions focused on Sanofi strategic investments in R&D

  • Attend meetings with Global Project Teams to review and understand assumptions including probability of success, pricing, peak year sales, time to market, market share growth rate
  • Develop a working knowledge of the therapeutic area and compare project assumptions to internal and industry benchmarks
  • Ensure the robustness of each project variables thanks to an in-depth knowledge of the project and deep expertise of expert functions involved
  • Help the Project Team in preparing for DWG and IDCC when it comes to the relevant metrics
  • In collaboration with Global Project Teams, complete project-level commercial and financial models and ensure models contain the latest project assumptions
  • Structure and perform scenarios and simulations to model and value strategic alternatives and trade-offs (‘’Stage gates’’) with the aim of maximizing value at a project and portfolio level
  • Development of portfolio standards using external data to improve internal data quality and fill gaps where they exist

Synthesize results to support project-level and portfolio-level decision making

  • Generate key project insights to facilitate decision-making and strategy selection
  • Synthesize project assumptions and outputs into a clearly articulated story

Participate in project and portfolio reviews

  • Develop supporting materials for meetings and contribute to leadership discussions
  • Help facilitate discussion of project-level strategic options, decision-making and optimal allocation of resources

Support development of analytical frameworks and tools for project and portfolio-level decision-making, with a focus on projects dedicated to digital transformation, implementation of new quantitative metrics and prediction tools based on cutting-edge modelling and artificial intelligence tools

Demonstrated ability to develop, guide, and influence across senior leadership is a critical component for this position.

PROFILE

  • A minimum of a Bachelor degree is required
  • Advanced Degree (PhD in Life Sciences, MD, Vet, Pharm D) and an MBA would be significant assets
  • A minimum of 5 years professional experience is required
  • Degree in machine learning and artificial intelligence preferred
  • A minimum of 5+ years of direct experience in the life sciences industry preferably in Strategy Consulting
  • Selected candidate will have a clearly demonstrated interest in, and knowledge of the life sciences industry
  • Good business judgment, strong analytical skills with a mastery of Excel, advanced analytics knowledge based on machine-learning and artificial-intelligence, a solid grasp of corporate finance principles
  • The ability to synthesize information and present key findings in a crisp and concise manner
  • Aptitude to learn and think quickly with the ability to apply learning across multiple situations
  • The maturity and leadership skills to be able to interact at senior levels
  • Position may require up to 10% overall business travel
  • Relevant expertise in oncology preferred
  • Knowledge of digital tools, ability to transfer knowledge to colleagues 
  • Ability to develop Data science solutions and data analyses to support Sanofi Global strategy team
  • Advanced mathematics, statistics, and artificial intelligence knowledge
  • High level of rigor and excellent analytical skills
