Who you are?
Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required
10+ years in a Payroll leadership role
Experience in California is required, multi-state experience
Strong working knowledge of payroll transaction accounting
Experience in high turnover industries, multi-family housing or hospitality is preferred
Demonstrated achievement in successful strategy formulation and implementation
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong focus on accountability and empowerment
Collaborative, “seek first to understand” mindset
Proven ability to effectively manage, coach and develop team members
High level of skill in change management, delegation, and conflict resolution
What you will do?
Direct the objectives and efforts of the payroll department.
Plan the activities of the Payroll department to strategically meet company objectives
Ensure high quality communication with company supervisors and associates regarding payroll processes and initiatives.
Protect the assets of the company and its clients by enforcing established controls and procedures. Determine and implement new controls and procedures to address changes in the business environment.
Interact with senior management and external customers for integrating solutions that address company goals.
Support the payroll team in resolving payment issues with benefits, human resources, consultants, technical resources, etc.
Motivate and manage payroll staff job performance, by counseling and disciplining associates, planning, monitoring, and appraising job performance.
Ensure proper training of the Payroll department staff.
Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies; studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.

Maintain associate confidence and protecting payroll operations by keeping information confidential.
Payroll Accounting
Ensure associates are paid on the due date, by ensuring payroll is processed timely and accurately.
Ensure all payroll and benefits journal entries are posted timely and accurately.
Oversee the recovery of legal, development, and property services payroll by ensuring collection monthly and that the recovery rate is appropriately calculated.
Review general ledger monthly reconciliations and ensure accurate and timely completion of all reconciliations.
Process and manage the executive payroll and associated payroll adjustments.
Provide special reporting and payroll analysis as requested by auditors and management as needed.
Ensure all payroll related federal, state, and local legal reporting and deposits are filed timely and accurately.
Ensure workers compensation burden is accurately calculated and recorded.
Ensure annual workers compensation audit is completed and is accurate. Respond to auditor requests as needed.
Participate in annual budgeting process as needed
Manage HCM System; Establish system specifications by conferring with users and department power users, analyze workflow, access, information, and security requirements and design system infrastructure.
Secure system by developing system access, monitoring, control, and evaluation; establishing and testing, policies and procedures and maintaining documentation.
Ensure users are trained in conjunction with other departments, assist with designing of training programs and providing support to users.
Upgrade system by conferring with vendors and services; developing, testing, evaluating, and installing enhancements.
Provide a method by which the system meets financial requirements such as submitting information for budgets, and monitoring expenses.
