Payroll & AP Specialist needed!

CFS has partnered with a local CT financial institution to help them find their new Payroll & AP Specialist. This person will manage all payroll functions. Process wire transfers in accordance with bank policy and regulations. Perform daily accounts payable function; provides support to the Accounting Specialist in the cash management function; assists the Senior Wire Specialist in the wire transfer function as needed; prepares account reconciliations.

Responsibilities of Payroll & AP Specialist:

• The Payroll & AP Specialist will process bi-weekly payroll
• Ensure data integrity, compliance with current wage and hour laws
• Keep current on payroll tax laws
• Process terminations and other payroll activity such as garnishments
• The Payroll & AP Specialist will prepare journal entries for posting payroll related transactions to the general ledger
• Maintain time and attendance system
• Monitor 401(k) and Roth 401(k) activity, both employee contributions and employer matches
• Process SERP payments, BOLI, GTL, and STD/LTD Imputed Income
• Serve as contact for 401(k) service provider and payroll provider
• Oversee annual filing process
• The Payroll & AP Specialist will work with outside service providers and internal system on file feed set up, process efficiency, and reporting
• Assist with audits and compliance related requests; special projects as assigned
• Allocate invoices to proper general ledger accounts
• Input payable invoices weekly using specialized accounts payable software; proves work; runs checks and ACH payments; maintains records and reports; researches and resolves issues
• Compile and prepare 1099/1096 tax reporting documentation
• Prepare and file State of CT sales and use tax, remits with appropriate documentation
• Process foreign collection items sent to correspondent bank
• Maintain bank’s correspondent accounts and daily cash position as required by management
• Assist with brokered deposit account settlement (including CDARS, ICS and IND) including new accounts and disbursement of closed accounts
• Prepare and maintain Federal Reserve Regulation D (FR2900) report and processes deposit data into CETO deposits reclassification as required by management
• Perform reconciliations on selected general ledger accounts, researches and resolves exceptions
• Assist with daily incoming/outgoing wire transfers as needed
• Assist with internal/external audits
• Updates procedures as applicable
• Performs other duties as assigned

Desired Qualifications:

• Strong knowledge of payroll taxes & laws
• Experience with the year-end payroll process
• Experience processing checks & invoices
• Bachelors or Associates in accounting or a related field
• Strong communication skills
• Strong tech skills-with payroll systems, UKG is highly preferred
