POSITION OVERVIEWThe Human Resources Director plans, leads, develops, and coordinates the school’s policies, ensuring legal compliance and implementation of the school’s mission.
The Human Resources Director manages the department staff and coordinates their activities.
Diversity is a core value at Albuquerque Academy, and we seek candidates who demonstrate an abiding commitment to equity and inclusion.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSCollaborates and partners with senior leadership to develop and implement the organization’s goals and strategy related to staffing, recruiting, and retentionPlans, leads, develops, coordinates, and implements policies, processes, training, initiatives, and surveys to support the organization’s human resource compliance and strategy needsOversees the administration of human resource programs including, but not limited to, compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health andsafety; and training and developmentIdentifies staffing and recruiting needs; develops and executes best practices for hiring and talent managementDevelops clear job descriptions and appropriate position classifications; posts job openings on various sites to ensure strong, diverse candidate pools; conducts research and analysis of organizational trends including review of reports and metrics from the organization’s HRIS or talent management systemWorks with the Office of the Head of School to issue faculty contracts and maintains the HRIS databaseMonitors and ensures the organization’s compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews and modifies policies and practices to maintain complianceWorks with legal counsel to respond to legal challenges, EEOC, and HRB complaintsMaintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; applies this knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to upper managementDevelops and implements departmental budgetFacilitates professional development, training, and certification activities for HR staffOversees the annual performance evaluation process for staff employeesMaintains human resources filesSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESRecruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff in the departmentOversees the daily workflow of the departmentProvides constructive and timely performance feedbackHandles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policyOTHER RESPONSIBILITIESRuns ad hoc reports as needed for various departmentsMay assist with OSHA, Workers’ Compensation, and unemployment tasksLiaisons with the Think Summer office on staffing and HR issuesCoordinates employee activities and gatherings as neededPerforms other duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONSEducation Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a business discipline is requiredKnowledge/Skills/AbilitiesExceptional customer service skillsAbility to maintain the highest level of confidentialityThorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulationsExcellent interpersonal and negotiation skillsAbility to interact positively and professionally with a diverse population of faculty, staff, students, and applicantsExperience with designing and implementing compensation modelsAbility to adapt to the needs of the organization and its employeesOutstanding writing, editing, and proofreading skillsExcellent organizational skillsMust be able to effectively prioritize and plan work activities to use time efficiently and delegate when appropriateStrong leadership and supervisory skillsMust be organized, accurate, thorough, and able to edit/monitor work for qualitySelf-motivated, resourceful, detail-oriented, and enthusiasticAbility to prioritize and handle multiple projects with frequent interruptionsAdept at problem solving, including being able to identify issues and resolve problems in a timely mannerAbility to take initiativeCritical thinking and problem-solving skillsProficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Docs, Sheets, and FormsProficient with or the ability to quickly learn the school’s HRIS and talent management system (Paycom)Ability to work independently and with a teamExperienceA minimum of 10 years in a Human Resources leadership role is requiredSHRM-SCP and/or SPHR certification(s) preferredWORKING ENVIRONMENT Work takes place primarily indoors in an office settingPHYSICAL DEMANDSProlonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computerMust be able to lift up to 15 pounds at timesSome walking or driving in a golf cart across campus is requiredPleased submit cover letter and resume to jmaples@swcp.com
