Job Role Summary

  • Responsible for the efficient running and administration of the organization’s payroll and expense accounts.

    Includes implementing and checking payroll and taxation changes on an on-going basis.

Purpose

  • Establishes payroll processing standards, timeframes, and communications to handle all tax obligations effectively and efficiently.
  • Requires an in-depth knowledge of organizational objectives, and implements strategic policies for obtaining results.

Main Responsibilities

  • Ownership and accountability for tax administration including reconciling tax filings for various companies in multiple states and provinces.
  • Ensure compliance, regulatory reporting and remittance, adherence to all requirements.
  • Establishes payroll processing standards, timeframes, and communications to handle all tax obligations effectively and efficiently with tax partners.
  • Partnering with Payroll tax vendor if responsible for remittances and payments to agencies for tax administration.

    Ensuring all accounts balanced and remitted timely.

  • Develop and implement payroll tax policies, procedures, and process improvements to maintain the quality, efficiency, and overall effectiveness of the team.
  • Provide support for tax audits and answer inquiries from various taxing jurisdictions.
  • Provides analysis, advice, and counsel to business leaders about the impacts of regulatory changes.
  • Maintains collaborative relationships with in-house counsel for definitive rulings and guidance on compliance issues and audit requests.
  • Manage the review and testing of payroll software tax updates, updates unemployment tax rates in payroll software.
  • Remains current on legislation and regulatory rulings that impact payroll or payroll tax to ensure compliance.
  • Research, interpret and understand existing or revised tax codes, laws, or forms.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with third parties/vendors.
  • Evaluate, develop, and enforce the use of audit tools which support the payroll tax administration process.
  • Serving as a subject matter expert and point of contact for all Payroll tax related requests.

  • Ensure that all operational processes are controlled from a risk perspective, and have built-in control plans and assessments to regularly review their effectiveness.

  • Capable of making decision which involve interpretation of the law (Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and Equal Employment Opportunity); able to communicate and or defend decisions to senior leadership and external entities (i.e.
