Under limited supervision, coordinates and implements activities that focus on demonstrating the quality and value of operations in the trauma program.

Provides collaborative professional clinical nursing services with one or more of the Clinical Core Business Group (CCBG) member departments or programs.

The following duties are intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities and ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification.

Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
Participates and supports Quality and Performance Improvement related activities and operations within the trauma program.

Assists with process redesign, evaluation, and monitoring performance of trauma care.

Assists with overall planning and implementation of trauma related education and programs in a collaborative manner with hospital nursing staff.

Provides consultation to physicians, nurses, and other health care providers in meeting patient trauma care needs of individuals or groups of patients in both outpatient and inpatient settings through concurrent patient rounding.

Responds to the emergency department for trauma activations occurring during usual hours of work.

Collaborates in providing education and training as related to approved trauma clinical guidelines and protocols.

Facilitates improvement efforts including process improvement and work redesign for assigned Clinical Core Business Group (CCBG) and multidisciplinary peer review.

Actively participates as a member of the Trauma Clinical Core Business Group and the Multidisciplinary Trauma QAI Peer Review team.

Assists with the development of multidisciplinary initiatives and plans of care to improve clinical operations and trauma-related programs.

Participates in various hospital meetings to improve trauma patient care processes.

Collects and analyzes data regarding patient care outcomes, makes recommendations for change, and interfaces with referring facilities to evaluate their needs and assist with the development of their trauma programs.

Participates in data collection, aggregation, analysis, and reporting of ANMC trauma activities.

Assists with maintaining the trauma registry.

Consistently supports and actively participates in ongoing preparations for the ACS site review for Level II Trauma Center re-verification.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

Knowledge of Alaskan culture.

Knowledge of collecting and interpreting data from medical records.

Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology and concepts of disease.

Knowledge of acute trauma care management and injury prevention concepts and strategies.

Knowledge of tools and implementation of total quality management practices.

Knowledge of modern nursing principles, techniques, and procedures for the care of patients.

Knowledge of organizational performance measurements, quality management methods.

Knowledge of the State of Alaska EMS system including the pre-hospital, medevac, and private hospital
systems, and the trauma registry.

Skill in interpersonal relationships.

Skill and capability to efficiently make independent decisions.

Skill in establishing priorities, workflow methods, and procedures to ensure timely and accuracy of work.

Skill in effectively leading staff and delegating tasks and authority.

Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others.

Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software programs.

Skill in providing safe and effective nursing care, assessing patient situations and taking effective
courses of action.

Skill in providing first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Skill in accessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.

Required Experience

MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION
A Bachelors Degree in Nursing.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION
Non-supervisory
– Ten (10) years of clinical experience with at least five (5) of those ten (10) years in
specialized clinical areas related to trauma.

An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training
may be substituted for experience.

MINIMUM CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION
Current Registered Nurse License with the State of Alaska.

PREFERRED EDUCATION QUALIFICATION
Masters Degree in Nursing preferred.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Emergency Nurses Association TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) instructor status required within
one (1) year.

WORKING CONDITIONS
The following demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully
perform the essential functions of this job:
Must be able to lift approximately 50 pounds.

ANMC is not a latex free facility; an employee should expect to work in an environment where latex
may be present.

Work involves the potential for exposure to infectious diseases.

Some non-standard work hours are required.

Some air travel is required.
