Senior Scientist / Associate Director of Molecular Pathology Core Laboratory Job Details Job ID: 26145 Location: 450 Brookline Ave, Boston, MA 02215 Category: Research Technician/Scientist Employment Type: Full time Work Location: Onsite:Up to 1 day remote/wk Overview A Senior Scientist position is open within the Molecular Pathology Core Laboratory (MPCL) in the Department of Oncologic Pathology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

The core provides support for clinical and translational research led by Dana-Farber investigators.

These include basic histology services (tissue processing, paraffin embedding, and sectioning), immunohistochemistry (IHC) and multiplex immunofluorescent (mIF) staining, imaging analyses, and scoring.

Additionally, we are making investments in state-of-the-art highly multiplex tissue imaging platforms, such as the GeoMx Digital Spatial Profiler (DSP, Nanostring) and the Molecular Ion Beam Imager (MIBI, IonPath) and making these available to investigators as service lines.

We work closely with the Department of Pathology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, the Center for Immunooncology Tissue Biomarker Lab.

The successful candidate will bring a knowledge of cell biology or molecular biology, and experience conducting tissue-based research.

Experience in diagnostic pathology and/or digital image analysis are desirable.

Experience in project management or fee-for-service core lab management are desirable.

The individual will have a leading and supervisory role within a team of 4 additional dedicated research staff, will collaborate with biomedical scientists and pathologists, and address key scientific questions related to cancer biology.

Requirements Characteristic duties: The Senior Scientist will serve as the Associate Director of MPCL and will have responsibility for the daily operations of the Core.

He/she will oversee and manage the daily activities of MPCL including hiring, training and supervising staff in the core laboratory, and maintaining equipment and service contracts.

Responsible for overseeing (in collaboration with department administration), the finances of the core including monthly billing.

This person will also collaborate with Research Administration on revising the core pricing analysis, as needed.

Oversee and conduct bench work; design and execute protein and RNA expression experiments using both traditional approaches and state-of-the-art multiplexing platforms; and drive projects to completion with high quality and in a timely manner.

Maintain detailed and accurate records of experimental work.

Ensure proper care and maintenance of equipment, participate in strategic decision-making about instrument acquisition for the lab.

Order reagents and supplies for projects and calculate costs for invoicing customers.

Work closely with investigators planning projects at the intake stage; attend and present at meetings to share results; provide materials and report data back to investigators.

Develop new, project-specific protocols; adopt and troubleshoot new technologies; receive and provide technical training.

Qualifications Qualifications: The successful candidate will possess a Ph.D.

or M.D.

and 6 years’ experience post education.

One year management responsibility would be required for a senior scientist level hire.

Possess an ability to multi-task, have excellent time management skills, be well organized, and detail-oriented.

Have a proven record of tracking and meeting goals / milestones across multiple projects.

Be highly adaptable and responsive to changing technologies and collaborative project needs.

Be able to work independently and as well within teams and managing others.

Have excellent interpersonal communication and writing skills.
