Job Summary
The Senior Director of Healthcare Services provides leadership, direction, and administration of operations to ensure the objectives of the healthcare services program are met, and is responsible for program management as defined by Anchorage School District (ASD) policy, the Alaska Nurse Practice Act, national standards of clinical practice, and applicable state statutes and regulations.

The senior director will direct, supervise, and coordinate the overall operation of ASD health services, will serve as the project manager for implementation of new health initiatives to assure cost-effective, high-quality, coordinated, patient-focused care and services, will coordinate with school-based health centers, and will assist in the development of organizational strategic plans and objectives.

The position has a retirement associated with Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS).

Job Requirements
The following are required:

  • A master’s degree in health care administration, business administration, nursing science, or related field.

    Equivalent experience, education, and training may be considered in lieu of the degree requirement.

  • Five years of management or administrative experience in healthcare.
  • Experience in budget development, project management, and team management.
  • Experience in strategic planning, organizational assessment, and demonstrated leadership skills.

The following are preferred:

  • Five years of experience managing healthcare operations.
  • Five years of supervisory experience within a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of medical and nursing regulations.
  • Knowledge of healthcare clinical operations, revenue cycle management, and finance.
  • Experience working with sensitive and confidential material and the ability to monitor compliance.

Essential Job Functions

  • Directs, supervises, and coordinates functions and activities of ASD healthcare programs, with emphasis on care delivery, high-quality customer service, staffing, and efficient allocation and use of resources.
  • Promotes the provision of cost-effective, high-quality health care services, including the alignment of services with established partners to ensure coordinated care.
  • Monitors and reports on program budget and makes recommendations for funding based on knowledge of policies, costs, and operating practices.
  • Organizes staff scheduling to optimize coverage and providers and support staff for outstanding health program delivery.
  • Develops healthcare implementation plans and stakeholder outreach and communication strategies.
  • Communicates regularly with staff, providers, and administrators to foster an environment of collaboration and support and to assure program effectiveness.
  • Interprets and applies federal and state laws relating to healthcare services and upholds national standards of healthcare implementation.
  • Coordinates staff orientation, oversees staff evaluation, and develops and delivers staff professional development.
  • Exercises a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion, and decision-making to achieve organizational objectives and effectively administer assigned programs.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with employees, administration, patients, and the public.
  • Demonstrates sound principles and practices of health care planning and management to optimize the operation of health care services.
  • Demonstrates excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills.

Physical/Mental Demands
The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking, and hearing.

Specific visual abilities are also required.

The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs.

Additionally, the employee must be able to communicate by oral and written means in an appropriate business manner and have cognitive skills to understand instructions, readily recall facts and details, handle conflict, and make effective decisions under pressure.

The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.
