Physician – Ophthalmologist

This is a Full-time position in New York, NY posted September 4, 2021.

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program.

You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.

Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

The Ophthalmologist (Fellowship-Trained Glaucoma Specialist ) performs duties of clinical, administrative and research management and will be that of the following duties:
Conducts clinics and provides pre-operative and postoperative ophthalmology services for surgical patients Performs and supervises ophthalmic surgery including laser procedures in the operating room, minor surgery room, and laser room Provide non-operative Ophthalmology hospital rounds for ophthalmology patients Document services through appropriate notes, such as History and Physical, Progress notes, Operative notes and Discharge Summaries Participates in morbidity and mortality reviews and conferences Educates residents and students in the principles and therapy of complex and basic ophthalmology surgery and services Performs administrative duties involved in the proper functioning of the Ophthalmology Section, Surgery Service Line Attending required staff meetings, communicating up and down the chain of command and helping prepare heads-up and issue briefs related to adverse patient outcomes at the direction if the Section Chief Clinical Management including indirect patient care: open encounter and open consult maintenance CPRS documentation requirements and monitoring of clinic management Maintains involvement in matters concerning clinic productivity, relevant performance measures, Quality and Patient Safety oversight, as well as process improvements (system redesigns).

If involved in research, they will show an ability to identify and define significant Research and Development problems, to plan and execute a precise research program, and to generate effective reports and results worthy of publication.

Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.

The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.

Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience: fellowship trained glaucoma specialist, candidate must have board certification, commitment to teaching and be eligible for faculty appointment at NYU
