Physical Security TechnicianPart-Time 1st ShiftVan Andel Institute’s Physical Security Department is seeking to hire a part-time 1st shift (Saturday and Sunday 0900-1700) Physical Security Technician.

– 365 days a year.WHAT DOES A PHYSICAL SECURITY TECHNICIAN DO?As a Physical Security Technician, you will be responsible for providing front line support for VAI’s Physical Security Department and responding to incidents within the building.AS A PHYSICAL SECURITY TECHNICIAN, YOU WILL:* Sustain a working knowledge of all emergency policies, protocols, procedures, and regulations to be able to respond to alarms, building equipment issues, incidents, and emergency situations (i.e.
hazmat, fire, and medical emergencies).* Conduct interior and exterior building tours to verify doors to the building are secure and research and building equipment is functioning properly (includes stairs, ramps, ladders).* Greet Institute visitors and assist them in processing through the visitor identification and badging process according to standard operating procedures in a positive and professional manner.* Work with visitor sponsors/coordinators to prepare visitor badges and other actions as required to provide superior customer service.* Manage and route incoming phone calls using digital switchboard and telephone communication systems.* Document daily activities by completing highly detailed daily shift logs and incident reports.* Facilitate communication and follow-up between the front desk and control room, concerning critical information that impacts normal operations.* Receive cross training to become proficient in control room operations and other functions to serve as a backup.* Conduct surveillance of suspicious persons, packages, and activities, monitor and inspect vehicles and package deliveries, and maintain access control of entrances and secure areas.DESCRIPTION OF THE IDEAL PHYSICAL SECURITY TECHNICIAN:* A customer service focused person who is professional, courteous, and confident when dealing with all individuals and is not afraid to have the difficult conversations when enforcing department and institute wide policies and procedures.* A person who is confident interacting with individuals from diverse backgrounds.* Observes situations quickly, analytically and objectively, determining a prompt course of action.* Ability to think through a situation, analyze and handle or refer people accordingly.* Works independently or as a team member, effectively within the guidelines of standard operating procedures, department rules and regulations.* Manages situations courteously, tactfully, impartially, and maintains confidentiality in performance of duties.QUALIFICATIONS OF THE IDEAL PHYSICAL SECURITY TECHNICIAN:High school diploma or GED, with some post-secondary education preferred.* At least two years of previous customer-facing experience in retail, hospitality, insurance, healthcare, or related industries.* Working knowledge of alarm system operations and the alarm response requirements* Technically proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.* Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally, using telephone and radio communications equipment.* Demonstrated superior customer service skills, tact, and good judgment in emergency situations, and work calmly and accurately under intense pressure.* Knowledge of basic first aid with CPR/AED certifications preferred (will train if not currently certified).* Ability to walk approximately 8 miles on a shift and ability to carry up to 50lbs.SCHEDULE:1st shift Part Time: Saturday AND Sunday 0900-1700.
Flexibility to pick up additional shifts during the week as needed is preferred for availability.The position involves regular and irregular shift work, shift and day off rotations necessary to provide services 24 hours/day, 7 days/week, and 52 weeks/year (weekends and holidays included).
