JOB SUMMARY The Occupational Therapy Assistant assists with rehabilitative activities for patients who may have developmental, physical and emotional impairments.
This position performs occupational therapy treatments to assist with restoring independent functioning and/or minimizing debilitation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE Provides occupational therapy treatments, under the direction of a licensed Occupational Therapist, to assist in developing, improving, and restoring independent functioning andor minimizing debilitation.
Communicates with the supervising therapist regarding patient progress or needs for updating plan of care.
Establishes rapport with the patient in a professional manner.
Provides necessary equipment andor instruction to patient andor family members prior to patient’s discharge.
Performs splinting application and education in use.
Prepares comprehensive, concise and timely documentation of patient treatment and progress.
Supervises support staff and students, when appropriate and as assigned.
Effectively communicates treatment information to support staff.
Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings to maintain awareness of patient status.
Fulfills continuing education andor certification requirements to maintain required qualifications.
Takes responsibility to understand and complete professional and technical requirements and provide documentation on such requirements Presents educational programs when requested.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS Must be physically capable of prolonged standing, walking, pushing and lifting.

Must be able to maintain confidentiality regarding patient.
Must have the ability to relate professionally and positively and work cooperatively with patients, families, and other employees at all levels.

– Associate’s EXPERIENCE
– Less than 1 Year of Experience CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION
– Occupational Ther Asst (OTA) Basic Life Support (BLS): BLS or BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer.
