The incumbent performs examinations utilizing Ultrasound methods which include but not limited to: color and pulsed-wave Doppler, examinations during interventional procedures such as biopsies and fluid localization, intraoperative procedures, foreign body detection, and examination of body areas.Learn more about this agencyResponsibilitiesThe incumbent is assigned to the Ultrasound Section of the Radiology Service and will perform Ultrasonography studies, process the studies using Picture Archive Communications System (PACS) for interpretation by the radiologist.
The incumbent is required to perform Ultrasound scanning of the abdomen, pelvis (including endo-vaginal exams), breast, neck, scrotum, and extremities (non-vascular).The major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:* Performs computerized ultrasonic tomographic scans of major and minor organ systems.* Advises radiologists or referring physicians of results of examinations and provide them with a preliminary diagnostic evaluation.* Maintains a quality assurance review of all ultrasound scanning equipment.* Performs general abdominal and portal vein ultrasound examinations.* Identifies when additional scans or different positions of the body are needed to fully demonstrate the anatomic area being evaluated.* Constructs optimum image presentation on the monitor, through skilled scanning techniques and record data.* Oversees patient scheduling and gives the proper pre-examination instructions when necessary.* Cleans the equipment thoroughly and develops a precise and consistent method in covering the equipment, and transducer with sterile drapes, being careful not to contaminate the sterile field.* Reviews and organizes the patient’s previous radiographic and ultrasound studies for comparison with the current study so that an effective diagnostic use can be made of the current study.* Schedules and appropriately manage inpatients, outpatients and Emergency department patients.Work Schedule: Thursday thru Monday, 4:00 pm to midnightTelework: Not AvailableVirtual: This is not a virtual position.Functional Statement #: 000000Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not AuthorizedFinancial Disclosure Report: Not requiredTravel RequiredNot requiredSupervisory statusNoPromotion PotentialNone* Job family (Series)0649 Medical Instrument Technician* RequirementsHelpRequirementsConditions of Employment* You must be a U.S.

There are no specific educational requirements for this occupation at the GS-9 level.Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements above, candidates must meet the following grade requirements.GS-Medical Instrument Technician Experience: At least 1 year of experience comparable to the next lower grade level, which is directly related to the duties of the position to be filled, and must fully meet the KSAs at that level.
This would be specialized experience which demonstrates possession of the knowledge required in order to provide all aspects of diagnostic ultrasonography services.
In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following technical KSAs:* Knowledge of the more complex examination and treatment procedures and techniques in order to provide training and supervision in these procedures, to evaluate and initiate performance improvement projects, and to write policies, procedures, and protocols that pertain to diagnostic ultrasonography.* Knowledge of JCAHO and other regulatory requirements.* Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with employees at varying grade levels.Assignments.
For all assignments above the full performance level, the higher-level duties must consist of significant scope, complexity (difficulty), and range of variety, and be performed by the incumbent at least 25% of the time.QUALITY RANKING FACTOR: This position includes a Quality Ranking Factor (the “Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities” or “KSAS” that could be expected to significantly enhance performance in a position but are not essential for satisfactory performance).The Quality Ranking Factor for this position is: possession of Basic Life Support (BLS) certification?
