CareWell Urgent Care is currently seeking a full-time Medical Assistant or EMT to join our team at our Billerica location.
Full time employees work 3 scheduled shifts a week from 8am – 8pm, and every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) from 8am – 8pm.
Summary:
Under general supervision, the Medical Assistant/EMT is responsible for continuous, efficient and smooth patient flow in the urgent care center. Identifies and provides necessary clinical preparation according to protocols, patient interactions, and review of patient charts. The Medical Assistant/EMT’s focus is to provide advanced emergency medical care for emergent who come to Carewell. This individual possesses the complex knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care. The Medical Assistant/EMT has knowledge, skills, and abilities developed by appropriate formal education and training. Administrative responsibilities will include, without limitation, all generally accepted office responsibilities, making appointments, filing, answering phones, preparing correspondence, and preparing patient charts, obtaining referrals and paperwork as needed/directed.
Hours:
8:00 am – 8:00 pm (3 scheduled days a week and rotating weekends)
Responsibilities:
- Take and record patient, height, weight, blood pressure, and temperature
- Guide patients through the office to the appropriate exam room
- After charting vitals, alert the physician that the patient is ready to be seen
- Be a support team player for all urgent care center co-workers
- Participation in quality improvement plans
- Ability to perform Clia Waived lab tests- Flu, UA, strep, mono, UCG, urine collection and blood draws and specimen handling; EKG; IV Stat; ISTAT; IV Start
- Performs clinical care to patients under the supervision of the physician. This will include, but is not limited to: operation of defibrillator and cardiac monitor, initiation of CPR, assisting with patient intubation, performance of nasogastric or oral suction, insertion of IV, administration of IV medication, preparation of laboratory specimens for processing, performance of EKGs, nebulizer treatments and pulmonary function tests, takes vitals, performance of pulse oximetry, administer intramuscular vaccinations, urine drug screens, and peak flow measures
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Interpersonal skills necessary in order to deal effectively and courteously with patients and families; exchange patient related information with a variety of clinic personnel; interact effectively with physicians and nurses
- Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when gathering patient data, entering data into the computer system, giving information, ordering services, completing log sheets of daily activities
- Willingness to take responsibility for actions; act positively upon feedback from others
Professional Responsibility Standards:

Clerical/Administrative:
- Greet patients in a positive and helpful manner
- Provide information and assistance as needed
- Gather demographic and insurance information then verify insurance coverage for all patients
- Using the computer system, generate fee slips for patients, review information for accuracy and instructions
- Provide necessary forms to patients for completion and signatures. Ensure all registration fields are filled in completely
- Keep patients informed of their account information
- Use computer to order services needed for corporate patients
- Notify nursing staff when patients are ready to be seen
- Collect payments, insurance co-pays, and medicine charges
- Coordinate patient care or patient records with other clinic locations when necessary
- Gather reports from referrals
- Be familiar with all locations, hours, directions
- Answer telephone calls, record messages for other staff and deliver messages
- Perform various duties such as photocopying forms, reports and patient information, faxing forms and charts
- Perform daily filing of charts and records to ensure excellent organization in patient records
- Maintain various logs of daily activities including patient count and financial transactions in order to prepare monthly tallies of operating activity
- Audit and balance all financial transactions to ensure accurate daily deposits
- Distribute mail
- Maintain an adequate level of office supplies and necessary forms as needed to ensure smooth department operations
- Provide positive team support for all personnel and departments
