This position floats to different lab locations for both outpatient and inpatient areas as needed and participates as an active team member of the Phlebotomy Float Pool.
Performs venipuncture, collects blood, and provides appropriate post-care of phlebotomy site.
Prepares various specimens for analysis while maintaining positive patient identification.
Performs specimen processing in a safe, accurate, and professional manner.
Performs order entry; retrieves and verifies patient collection data and patient special notations using appropriate sources.
Cooperates with coworkers in the completion of assignments and sets priorities for specimen collection.
Employs standard precautions, infection control, and proper isolation techniques.
Performs all other assigned tasks as needed.
Must have flexibility with schedule and ability to adapt to outpatient and inpatient settings.
Qualifications Minimum of 1 year of phlebotomy, specimen handling, central processing or medical assisting is required.Graduation from an accredited phlebotomy or medical assisting program required.
Completed phlebotomy externship.High School diploma or GED required.Must be flexible with scheduleMust be adaptable to various types of locations outpatient, inpatient, and in office primary care settings.Additional qualifications Prior clinic and hospital experience preferred.Must have flexibility to be available for assignment cell phone or other reliable method.Familiarity with lifespan growth and development, basic anatomy, physiology, and basic medical terminology.Above average communication skills and strong attention to detailAbove average customer service and patient care skillsProven ability to deal effectively with people in stressful situations.Ability to work independently and in a team environment.Ability to learn and utilize multiple computer systems.Ability to push/pull phlebotomy cart and supplies and wheelchairs.Experience in a hospital and/or clinical pathology environment preferred.Internal applicants are required to attach their three most recent performance appraisalsExemption status Non-exemptCompensation Detail Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
