GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT: Summarize the nature and level of work performed.
The LPN is a licensed practical nurse who provides competent, compassionate nursing care to patients and families under the direct guidance and supervision of a registered professional nurse.
Oversees all clinics and works with each provider to ensure quality and compassionate care to each patient.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Indicate key areas of responsibility, major job duties, special projects and key objectives for this position.
These items should be evaluated throughout the year and included in the written annual evaluation.
Responsible for clinical duties as LPN with the guidance and supervision of the Medical Specialty Physicians.
Having a broad understanding of each clinic in attendance of the Medical Specialties Unit and how it operates, this LPN will display a high degree of initiative and independent judgment while reporting to the Practice/Nurse Manager.
The LPN must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills conducive to functioning in a harmonious environment with providers of all specialties and patient’s as well.
CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The LPN must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide high quality care to the patients and maintain a climate in which effective patient focused care is assured through the patient’s ambulatory visit.
Participate in the implementation and evaluation of the nursing care and treatment plans within the practice.
Observes, reports and records pertinent patient information in accordance with the Department of Nursing standards.
Performs nursing procedures within the parameters defined by the Department of Nursing.
Identify patient care needs and utilizes nursing resources appropriately.
Maintains and updates clinical knowledge and skills
Provides competent and compassionate nursing care.
Able to prioritize workloads based on the clinics in operation and the census.
Develops implements and oversee the maintenance of filing, record keeping and other types of ambulatory care practice systems, working closely with the Practice and Nurse Managers.
Attends mandatory trainings as required by the MGH Chelsea Health Center and MGH.
Identify and evaluates the means of improving the ambulatory care practice and makes effective recommendations to the Practice/Nurse Managers.
Acts as a liaison with the specialty providers and Nurse/Practice Managers.
Ensures that the physical environment is maintained.
Follows established protocols and ensures compliance with Joint Commission/Infection Control and MGH Quality and Safety.
Meets regularly with the Practice/Nurse Managers concerning issues that pertain to the Specialties Department.
Provides all other duties that are practice specific and that are appropriate to this level of position.
QUALIFICATIONS: (MUST be realistic, neither overstated nor understated, and related to the essential functions of the job.)
Current licensure as a licensed practical nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
