  • Description

    Supervises daily operational activities and functions of the Clinical Laboratory to ensure quality patient care consistent with established professional, regulatory and governmental standards and guidelines

    Essential Functions:

    • Supervises daily technical operations of the laboratory to ensure highest quality patient care consistent with established professional, regulatory and governmental standards
    • Performs a variety of laboratory tests and procedures to determine presence of normal and abnormal components; performs blood group, type and compatibility tests, studies cells and morphology
    • Performs and reviews quality controls in testing; decides if results are within acceptable ranges, researches problems and corrects.
    • Participates in scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of instruments, proficiency testing as assigned ; quality control testing and data analysis
    • Prepares solutions, stains, reagents and other equipment and supplies as required for the completion of tests and examinations
    • Reviews reports, accessions logs, computer generated reports and other information produced in the clinical laboratory to ensure legibility, accuracy and timely delivery
    • Conducts and oversees quality assurance and quality control, and collecting, analyzing, and interpreting lab results
    • Maintains clinical laboratory quality control tracking and monitoring systems that will integrate efforts into organization-wide Quality Improvement systems
    • Implements policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all federal, state, licensing and regulatory requirements and practices
    • Presents programs and in-services to staff to ensure ongoing staff education
    • Assists in evaluating and selecting equipment and supplies
    • Assists Clinical Laboratory Director in developing and implementing methods/procedures for coordination of clinical laboratory services with related patient care activities.
    • Collects monthly data and creates statistical reports of laboratory activities
    • Develops and maintains effective working partnerships with physicians by facilitating appropriate involvement in departmental planning and operations to ensure a collaborative work environment
    • Develops and supervises staff through provision of timely feedback and use of appropriate Human Resource policies and tools to ensure maintenance of desired performance and quality standards
    • Participates in departmental orientation, on the job training and quality assurance programs/initiates
    • Participates in a variety of department and hospital educational programs to maintain current skills and competency levels; identifies and discusses performance or training needs with Supervisor
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Requirements
    • Four years of supervisory experience, plus two years clinical experience
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical or Clinical Laboratory Technology or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • ASCP certification or equivalent nationally recognized Medical Technology certification
    • BLS Certification or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
