David Page at The Whitehead Institute/MIT.
The Page Lab is interested in the differences and similarities between males and females, in both healthy and disease states.
Dr.
Page and his team are investigating the contributions of the X and Y chromosomes to sex differences at the genomic, epigenetic, molecular, and cellular levels.
They are exploring molecular-level variations in organs and systems where diseases with sex-based differences manifest, such as the immune system, heart, and brain.
They also study individuals with a wide range of sex chromosome complements to understand the influence of the X and Y chromosomes on gene regulation across the entire genome.
More information can be found on the lab website.The Research Technician will directly support the science, analyze the data, contribute to papers, and thrive in a supportive, creative, and learning-focused environment.
This Research Technician will support their assigned postdoc, and others in the lab, in the design and performance of experiments.
They will assist the postdoc and PI by helping summarize all experimental data to determine which research methods best support the major scientific initiatives.
It is important for the Research Technician to use discretion and work independently as well as collaboratively under the guidance of the PI or postdoc.
Above all else, the Page Lab is looking for someone that is excited by the science and passionate about supporting the lab’s mission.This position requires flexibility to work approximately 11:30am 8pm, 2 3 days per week, as needed, and the ability to travel to collaborator’s site in Boston 2 3 days per week, as needed.Principal Responsibilities:In consultation with the Principal Investigator or other project manager, coordinates and oversees several varied experiments that support the overall goals of a research lab/group.Work efficiently and cooperatively to assist postdoctoral fellows and graduate students in the processing of human specimens, extracting DNA and transforming into cell lines to log into database, and employing the following techniques:Standard basic molecular biology techniques such as cloning, PCR, cell culture, protein expressionMonitors the progress and results of various experiments and projects.
May manage a database to compile and present results in a meaningful manner.
Gathers, summarizes, and reports all experimental results to Principal Investigator or project manager.
May assist PI or project manager with publication efforts.Collaborates with PI or project manager to analyze results, and to address complex technical problems.
Consults scientific literature as needed.Assists with determining the methods and appropriate experimental controls to be used in research.Helps implement any changes in protocols or methods, trains lab personnel on new methodologies.Assist with other support duties relating to lab management and operations as requiredMay assist PI with journal and paper editing.
Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in biology and 5 years of experience in a research laboratory, or Master’s degree and 3 years of experience required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Master’s Degree preferred.Tissue culture and molecular biology experience required.Ability to work approximately 11:30am 8pm, 2 3 days per week, as needed.
Schedule on other days is somewhat flexible.Ability to travel to collaborator’s site in Boston 2 3 days per week, as needed.Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong organizational skills required.Knowledge of various scientific databases and experience with publishing or presenting experimental results preferred.Ability to work both independently and as a team member while engaged in collaborative studiesKnowledge of basic molecular biological techniques and a strong understanding of the underlying scientific principlesAbility to use good judgment in managing deadlines and responding to inquiriesDetail oriented with highly accurate work productAbility to follow instruction with an eagerness to learn, grow professionally, and bementoredActively seeks opportunities to increase skills and expertisePhysical Requirements:Remaining in a normal seated or standing position for extended periods of time; reaching and grasping by extending hand(s) or arm(s); dexterity to manipulateobjects with fingers, for example using a keyboard; communication skills using the spoken word; ability to see and hearwithin normal parameters; ability to move about workspace.
