Executive Director, Health Economics and Clinical Outcomes Research (HECOR)

Position Overview

Nektar has an exciting opportunity for an Executive Director, Health Economics and Clinical Outcomes Research (HECOR) to join their Medical Affairs team.

Reporting to the VP, Medical Affairs and working closely with the ED, GMA MSL Field Team, the Executive Director, Value and Evidence/HECOR is responsible for developing and executing the value evidence generation and dissemination strategy for BEMPEG.

• The position will oversee strategic planning and execution for all activities involved in developing HECOR strategies and tactics, in order to gain and maintain market access and reimbursement; this will include the development of a value story, value dossiers, economic models, and planning for HTA reviews to help demonstrate the value of BEMPEG.

• This will be a Global position, with the initial focus on US, and the incumbent is expected to work closely and cross-functionally with Access, Payor, and Pricing teams, globally and regionally as prioritized

• This position contributes to and supports the company’s research and development efforts to create high value therapeutics to address unmet medical needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Consistently works with abstract ideas or situations across functional areas of the business.

Through assessment of intangible variables, identifies and evaluates fundamental issues, developing strategy and direction for major functional areas.

Requires in-depth knowledge of the functional area, business strategies, and the companys goals.

• Builds and implements the BEMPEG HECOR evidence generation and dissemination strategy.

• Lead s delivery of value evidence generation strategies throughout life cycle (early to late stage development).

• Drive s high-quality evidence generation methodologies and execution of timely deliverables.

• Represents HECOR on various cross-functional teams within Medical Affairs and across relevant commercial/scientific areas.

• Directs and implements relevant HECOR initiatives with external entities.

• Working closely with scientific communications team, the ED will contribute to development and execution of overall and HECOR specific publication plans, which may include systematic literature analyses, identification of gaps and evidence to help inform studies on burden of illness, real-world clinical outcomes, epidemiology, quality of care and unmet need and develop and ensure robust research processes to ensure rigor, quality, credibility and transparency.

• Establishes an integrated HECOR plan aligned with Commercial, Market Access, and Scientific objectives.

• Provide strategic guidance on optimal HECOR support for managed markets and stakeholders.

• Although currently an individual contributor, it is expected that this position will have direct reports and will manage relevant vendor interactions and relationships.

• This position is also anticipated to work closely with ex-US, including EU leadership, and ROW entities to support the company’s overall HECOR and value proposition.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

Requires a master’s degree in a HECOR-related field (Public Health, Economics, Epidemiology, Statistics, Health Services Research (or similar), and a minimum of 18+ years related experience and 15+ years of management experience. Experience in Oncology and experience with interactions with US and European reimbursement agencies is preferred.

Successful track record of leading a HECOR team with strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills.

Ability to collaborate cross-functionally across teams and across the organization.

Extensive experience in HECOR research methodologies (retrospective observational cohort, cross-sectional studies, registries, etc.) to support product development and reimbursement efforts is required.

Experience in clinical, business, and strategic initiatives at a managed care organization and has comprehensive market segment understanding.

Deep knowledge of health care delivery models, population health analytics, clinical informatics, and healthcare reform and changes planned by CMS as well as other governmental agencies. Travel (up to 30%) for conferences, meetings, and HECOR project or team-management related business

• Understanding of the global healthcare environment, clinical research processes, global federal regulations, and ethical guidelines

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Proven meeting planning and team facilitation skills

• Ability to create, track and plan timelines and budgets

• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

• Excellent organization and multi-tasking skills

• Strong interpersonal skills and problem-solving capabilities

• Strong computer skills and knowledge of database management
