Director Pharmacy Clinical Services

Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago

This is a Full-time position in Chicago, IL posted August 17, 2021.

Identifies, evaluates, and implements specific pharmacy services which should be provided to patients including clinical process improvement, redesign, and project management.

Oversees and coordinates staff clinical education.

Coordinates Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and Drug Utilization Committee activities and maintain the medication formulary.

Participates in development and revision of Clinical Care Guidelines.

Oversees Pharmacy Residency and Pharmacy Student Programs.
1.

Evaluates current clinical pharmacy services and identifies, develops, and implements ways to improve productivity and efficiency.
2.

Works with the Senior Director to advance clinical pharmacy practice.
3.

Coordinates formal clinical training and education programs for all Pharmacy Staff.

May delegate responsibility as appropriate.
4.

Develops and directs the Departments pharmacy practice residency program.
5.

Evaluates medication use patterns and identifies opportunities for optimizing the economic utilization of medications.
6.

Assesses drug shortages with the Pharmacy Purchasing Agent and Operations Director.

Formulates alternative plans for shortages with clinical impact.
7.

Maintains working relationships with administrative personnel, medical staff committees, and practitioners, regarding medication utilization practices, procedures, and activities.
8.

Participates in and serves as a resource for development of disease-based guidelines and critical pathways to ensure issues of optimal economic utilization of medications are being addressed and incorporated while balancing optimal patient outcomes.
9.

Assures that hospital/department policies and procedures are properly administered; reviews and identifies the need for new policies and procedures and minimal standards for the profession.
10.

Assures that clinical practices are compliant with all applicable legal, regulatory, and accrediting agencies.
11.

Works with the Pharmacy Informatics Coordinator to develop methods and procedures to assure proper information for safe dosing and patient monitoring are present and available in automated systems.
12.

Reviews and identifies the need for new policies and procedures and minimal standards for medication management as it relates to the drug formulary and clinical practice.

Makes recommendations for and implements changes as necessary.
13.

Conduct annual performance appraisals for direct reports.
14.

Attends and participates in internal or external user groups and professional organizations to enhance professional knowledge.
1.

PharmD degree from an American Council of Pharmaceutical Education accredited College of Pharmacy.
2.

Completion of a Genera Pharmacy Practice Residency (focus in pediatrics desirable) or Pediatric Specialty Residency.
3.

Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Pharmacist by the State of Illinois.
4.

Three years post-residency pharmacy practice experience.

5.

Board Certification thorugh the Board of Pharmacy Specialites preferred.
6.

Demonstrated experience teaching and training pharmacy students and residents.
7.

Prior leadership experience preferred
8.

Excellent communication and presentation skills.
9.

Knowledge of Pharmacy Operations Best Practices.
10.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
