Bellevue’s clinical centers of excellence include: Emergency Medicine and Trauma Care; Cardiovascular Services; Designated Regional Perinatal Center and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (ICU); Comprehensive Children’s Psychiatric Emergency Program; and Cancer Services.

Job Duties:

Manages the overall operations of chemistry which operates 24 hours 7 days per week in order to produce test results as rapidly as possible and of high quality.

Responsible for the direct supervision of lab operation, staff and enforcement of policies and procedures.

Works independently under general director to address laboratory needs as the occasion arises.

Demonstrates knowledge of the organization’s service standards and incorporates them into the performance of duties.

Principal Responsibilities

I.

Supervisory oversight-Employment training/ Technical Assistance with staff Supervises technical staff, oversee laboratory operation and provides support to the lab section COQ holder, Prepares staff schedule.

Complete staff evaluation.

Performance Criteria

A.

Assists associate chemist III, lab section director in monitoring and compliance of organization’s service standards by laboratory employees.

B.

Communicates lab section problems with equipment, reagent, media, etc to the director and administration

II.

Laboratory Set-up, Preparation of laboratory area, equipment, reagents, and instrument for testing.

Performance Criteria

A.

Receipt of Sample

B.

Accessioning of sample into chemistry

C.

Workstation

III.

Specimen Preparation and testing, prepares specimens to be tested; performs manual and automated tests on blood, urine and body fluids according to established laboratory procedures.

Performance Criteria

A.

Identifies and prepares accurately specimens which have been colleced by phlebotomy team, nurses or physicians in according to laboratory policies and procedures.

B.

Checks samples to ensure correct identification and that it matches with accompanying label to ensure accuracy of recording and reporting of results.

 

 

 Minimum Qualifications:

1.

Valid license as a clinical laboratory technologist issued by the NYSED; and

2.

Candidates must also meet one of the qualification requirements of a laboratory supervisor as outlined in Title 1 0, Section 58-1.4 of the New York Public HeaIth Law.

Preferred
Master’s Degree and NCA/ASCP certification in addition to the minimum requirements Working knowledge of related theory, principles, practices, applicable instrumentation, analytical methods, quality contorl, statistical analysis, current government equipment regulations and leadership The position may require flexible work schedule.
