This is a Contract position in Carefree, AZ posted August 4, 2021.

Job Description SALARY RANGE $40,000 – $44,000 starting (DOQ) Town of Carefree July, 2021 SUMMARY Under the general supervision of the Public Works Supervisor, performs skilled work in the maintenance and construction fields including but not limited to building maintenance and repair, landscape and irrigation, drainage, and street maintenance/operations. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS; Certification, Education and Experience: A valid driver license with no major driving citations within the past 36 months may be required. Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening. Arizona Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred but will be required within six months of date of hire. These includes passing the Arizona Department of Transportation physical exam, complete and pass the skills demonstration portion of the commercial driver’s license test and securing the actual CDL license within the 6-month period. As a condition of continued employment, individuals are required to maintain a valid Arizona Commercial Driver’s License with appropriate endorsements and are subject to random, unannounced drug and alcohol testing to comply with the Department of Transportation (DOT) Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations 49 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 382 A high school diploma or GED equivalent or higher. Work experience equivalent to three (3) years journey level related to irrigation systems or other central computerized management systems, horticulture, construction techniques, street maintenance/operations and/or public works operations. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of: Principles, methods and tools associated with rough and finish construction, carpentry, masonry, concrete finishing, welding and rough plumbing. Use of construction, maintenance tools and heavy equipment Understanding of how to safely and efficiently use a diverse range of maintenance and construction equipment. Landscaping and ground maintenance principles and practices. Ability to: Aptitude to work from drawings and specifications. Communicate effectively (orally and in writing) with clearly organized thoughts. Comprehend and make inferences from written material, verbal and written instructions. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, contractors and the general public. Complete required OSHA/Safety Training as required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following duties and responsibilities of this position may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following tasks: On call 24 hours, 7 days a week to ensure timely clean-up following emergency and natural disasters. Performs rough carpentry by framing walls, roofs and partitions; remodel existing structures by demolishing walls and constructing new walls and doors; sheet new roofs. Construct and set concrete forms, perform other concrete work by pouring and laying cement sidewalk, driveways, steps, floors and foundations; and lay masonry block by mixing mortar, laying block and stuccoing. Perform welding and metal fabricating tasks while maintaining, building and repairing structures and equipment. Operate a variety of equipment including gas and electric welders, grinders, chops saws and other types of metal forming equipment. Monitor and maintain various irrigation systems, light control systems, and fountain equipment at all Town facilities. Follow proper horticulture practices. Assist with construction projects in assigned areas. Keep manager informed of hazards or problems in the field and takes corrective action; responds to emergencies and changing priorities; recommends improvements. Operate a Town motorized vehicle, maintain heavy equipment including but not limited to front end loader, backhoe, dump truck, boom truck, power sprayer, trencher, tractor, street sweeper, and other Town equipment. Uses various hand tools. Respond to and addresses citizen concerns in a timely manner. Perform skilled maintenance, construction and repair work of Town owned sidewalks, alleyways, roads and shoulders as directed. Apply commercial weed control and removes growing/dead weeds on a regular basis. Use a variety of hand/power tools. Perform other duties as assigned. WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS To successfully perform the essential functions of this position the following descriptions represents the typical physical demands and work environment that must be met by an employee. Work a varied schedule including responding to emergencies and natural disasters. Read and visually interpret complex plans quickly and accurately and compare them to work in progress. Operate a variety of standard office equipment, including a computer terminal, telephone, copy and fax machine requiring continuous and repetitive arm, hand and eye movement. Operate measuring devices, camera, ladder, or other light to heavy mechanical equipment as necessary to complete essential functions. Travel to/from various locations for meetings and construction/improvement sites. Operates town motor vehicles and heavy mechanical equipment. Exposure to environmental conditions including dust, pollen, inclement weather, temperature extremes, unpleasant odors, unsafe structures, heights and hazardous situations on construction sites. Work sometimes involves climbing ladders and working at heights greater than 10 feet; bending and stooping repeatedly, lift arms above head; moderate muscular exertion and lifting. Work performed in various maintenance settings and field situations. Moderate to heavy physical effort typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling. Heavy lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of weights over 50 pounds. Walk across trenches and dirt piles.
