POSITION SUMMARY:
The City of Glenwood Springs Parks & Recreation Department is seeking an experienced and passionate Downtown Parks & Public Spaces Supervisor to manage the City’s downtown corridor, parks and adjoining outdoor public spaces. In this position, you will supervise, oversee, and coordinate the downtown corridors’ daily custodial, maintenance, landscaping, and grounds care. This expanding role will strive to continue Glenwood Springs long tradition of providing beautiful parks and parkways for its citizens and visitors.
This supervisory position includes the assigning of schedules and duties to staff. This position may also assist at parks, cemetery grounds, recreation facilities and landscaping at other city owned properties outside of the downtown area. Individuals are expected to work in a safe and efficient manner. Receives instructions and technical advice from the Parks Superintendent and Parks Director.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Daily monitoring of overall downtown cleanliness of areas such as; sidewalks, crosswalks, curbs, gutters, alleys, trash compactor area and public parking lots. Assign and participate in appropriate routine maintenance duties. Plan and implement high level daily service at the downtown elevators, restroom, pedestrian bridge, Bethel Plaza, and parking garage including power washing and spot cleaning.
- Performs landscape maintenance on city owned planters, flower pots and beds. These duties include; planting, watering, irrigation repair, daily and annual upkeep.
- Assist with planning of landscaping for new development in the downtown area.
- Monitors and maintains the downtown maintenance budget, making informed recommendations for expenditures when necessary. Oversee and approve expenditures.
- Maintain the downtown holiday lighting and work with contractors for adjustments and repairs.
- Respond to snow removal needs in a timely manner with both equipment operation and handwork.
- Represent the city when interacting with the public and downtown stakeholders including the Downtown Development Authority (DDA).
- Collaborate with other City Departments on projects, events, and future planning.
- Ability to work an on-call schedule as needed. Weekend shift and evening coverage may be required for special events and snow removal.

EDUCATION, TRAINING & CERTIFICATIONS
Necessary:
- High School Diploma or equivalent plus four (4) years of any combination of education and/or experience related to Parks Maintenance or a related field with at least two years of supervisory experience.
- Current valid Driver’s license with satisfactory motor vehicle record.
- Colorado State University Master Gardner’s Certificate or equivalent within 1st year of hire. (Training provided by the City of Glenwood Springs)
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel as well as becoming proficient in the organizations financial and asset management programs.
- Ability to obtain certificates in areas such as park safety, irrigation maintenance, weed management, pesticide application and tree maintenance. (Training provided by the City of Glenwood Springs)

DIRECT REPORTS ASSIGNED: 2 Full time, 2 Part-Time, 1-2 Seasonal Staff

Pay: $25.81 – $30.97 per hour
