Company Overview

Aireon has deployed the world’s first and global space-based air traffic surveillance system, which is revolutionizing the entire aviation industry.

The Aireon system provides real-time aircraft monitoring spanning never before covered areas of the planet, including remote, oceanic and polar regions.

Aireon’s receivers are hosted on the Iridium constellation, which consists of 66 operational satellites in low-earth orbit and utilizes a unique cross-linked satellite architecture creating a web of coverage around the world.

The Aireon system enables safer, more efficient and more environmentally friendly aviation travel, resulting in significant CO2 emission reductions.

Numerous Air Navigation Service Providers have already signed on as customers and are receiving Aireon’s space-based ADS-B data, including NAV CANADA, NATS (UK), Naviair (Denmark), Enav (Italy), the Irish Aviation Authority, Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, Air Traffic and Navigation Services (South Africa) and more.

Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY: 

Aireon is seeking an enthusiastic, high-energy, and detail-oriented Director of Marketing and Public Relations to oversee all marketing and communications initiatives across multiple departments and formats.

They are an expert in content creation, brand consistency, event planning and taking technical content and elevating it to a level where all industry representatives can understand.

The ideal candidate will have experience in the Air Traffic Management (ATM) sector of aviation and a strong background in not only crafting the media relations, brand, and marketing strategies, but also the knowledge to implement and assign resources to execute.

This individual will be Aireon’s evangelist, spokesperson, and responsible for shaping the story around every facet of Aireon’s technology.

Aireon’s Marketing Department is lean but has boundless potential.

Personnel management experience is necessary, as is cross-departmental project management.

Being a senior member of Aireon’s leadership team, it’s important to note that this position requires confidence, flexibility, the “get your hands dirty” approach to everything and someone who enjoys learning technical details on the fly.

The position collaborates and manages the Senior Marketing Specialist, digital and creative vendors, event vendors and internal stakeholders to help define both the brand story and the story as interpreted by the customer and ensure a consistent message across all channels.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Provide strategic direction of all marketing and communications efforts to support dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Manage marketing staff and contractors in implementing marketing and communications plans
  • Manage ongoing communications and coordination with internal product management and functional staff throughout the organization.
  • Create, launch and execute multi-faceted, strategic marketing campaigns to increase company visibility, profile and brand within government and commercial communities and industries.
  • Proven track record in supporting sales with viable, comprehensive tools and assets to increase lead generation and advance customers through sales cycle.
  • In collaboration with Executive Team, dynamically adjust and refine marketing strategy as needed.
  • Create and implement go-to-market strategies for new commercial products, including identifying targeted verticals, participating in integrated product review board and prioritizing product enhancements based on customer feedback.
  • Serve as liaison between partner and investor government organizations to maintain consistent branding and messaging.
  • Act as company spokesperson and evangelist while pitching media, creating editorial content, crafting thought leadership initiatives, composing media responses, writing press releases/talking points and designing speaking abstracts.
  • Research, monitor and track offerings of the marketing and its competitors.
  • Garner unpaid media coverage.
  • Manage seven-figure marketing budget with precision and accountability.
  • Oversee and develop social media strategy to promote the business and generate leads
  • Create and execute Aireon’s extensive trade show/conference strategy re: third party organizations and self-hosted events – averaging between 15-20/year.
  • Collaborate with Sales Operations to manage, produce, create and finalize proposals.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS 

  • 10 to 15 years work experience, with familiarity with Air Traffic Management (ATM) industry and related aviation technologies highly desired.
  • Strong background in managing vendors to optimize output.
  • BA/BS in English, marketing, or comparable work experience.
  • Already existing list of media contacts.
  • Possess an understanding of multiple marketing channels (online and offline)
  • Strong project management experience—taking campaigns from concept to completion.
  • Ability to develop and implement strategic plans.
  • Ability to influence across departments without formal authority and manage external vendors.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in taking technical terminology and elevating it for easy understanding.
  • Expertise in office technology and software (including MS-Office products).
  • Strong teamwork skills.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality standards.
  • Strategic thinker that can develop options and present recommendations to optimize ROI.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce.com, Mailchimp and WordPress CMS.
