Position Summary:

The Global Biologics Engineering function, which sits within Global Technical Operations, is responsible for delivering on strategic capital investments related to the growth of the business. Any major capex investment over $5-10Mio USD falls within the remit of the Global function, and is either directly managed by the global team, or can provide governance, support and oversight for local site execution, based on project size and complexity. The global function focuses on new business opportunities, strategic capex growth and inorganic growth via acquisition and partnership

The role of Chief Engineer, Infrastructure within GBE is as a primary subject matter expert (SME) who will support the global Catalent network with technical expertise and know-how in line with the duties and responsibilities as outlined below. This role supports all sites globally and spans all modalities of our Biotherapeutics business, including MAbs, Gene Therapy, Viral Vectors and Cell Therapies.

The Role:

• Mastery of engineering subject matter area of responsibility; strong engineering generalist; demonstrated curiosity and ability to learn new technologies
• Support to major capital projects, in facility/utility/infrastructure design, and equipment selection
• Support the life cycle of projects from engineering concept through to GMP operation via technical expertise and project ownership
• Evaluation of new technologies for suitability to Catalent
• Per the above, strategizes on what modifications or investments might be required to accommodate the new client business onto our network assets
• Support plant qualification and startup on site as needed
• Troubleshooting of plant network technical issues as needed
• Represent Catalent as an SME in the external environment (industry groups, trade associations, conferences etc)
• Demonstrated partnership with the Process Development / MSAT function within Catalent
• Sets corporate standards and best practices; educates, develops and enhances functional area expertise across the entire organization; supporting significant business impact through life cycle: troubleshooting; corporate level equipment selection and technical relationship management of key strategic vendors; reliability engineering support
• Travel 20-30%

The Candidate:

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or appropriate engineering discipline (Required)
• Clear technical experience in design and operation of utilities and infrastructure in a bio-processing environment
• 15+ years of engineering related experience
• 7+ years in BioPharm Industry experience
• Accountable for technical oversight of $5M+ of value
• Experience working in cross-functional / cross-site environment and full equipment life cycle
• Strong record of delivering business impactful Engineering projects
• Experience working in global environment, across diverse cultures
• Must be able to read and understand English-written job instructions and safety requirements

Supervises:

• This position is an individual contributor role, but it will from time to time be called upon to manage external resources in terms of contractors, equipment suppliers etc.
• Mentor to engineering staff at the site level

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand or walk for up to 8 hours per day.
• Ability to climb steps and ladders.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds as needed.
• Ability to wear a respirator and pass the required respiratory medical clearance.
• Ability to wear safety shoes when applicable.
• Willingness to travel domestically/internationally
