Thermal Analysis Section Manager

Raytheon Intelligence & Space is seeking a Thermal Analysis Section Manager for a Mechanical Engineering team in the Space Systems Electro-Optical (EO) Sensor Systems Department within the Hardware Engineering Center.

This role requires management knowledge in the support of engineering development teams along with expertise in EO sensor design, mechanical engineering, and a general understanding of other areas and disciplines.

The candidate hired for this position will be responsible for leading a group of mechanical engineers towards the successful execution of the space programs they support.

This position also serves as a Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer for the department and programs, often serving as the Thermal Analysis lead on Space EO programs.

The Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer is responsible for establishing key components of space sensors to develop new products, processes, standards, or operational plans.

The engineer will be involved with process improvement, selection of systems or products to effectively influence new designs for producibility, and the establishment of strong communication lines between multi-domain cross functional teams including external customers and vendors.

In this role the engineer will typically manage a functional team of opto-mechanical engineers supporting the development of complex EO sensors and subassemblies.

The Thermal Analysis Section Manager is responsible for understanding design requirements, assembly, test procedures and processes, and cPDM systems.

This position requires experience in detailed engineering design with knowledge of AI&T and production.

As an engineering leader, you will oversee the work product of opto-mechanical engineers supporting conceptual, detailed design, and sub-assembly builds of EO space products.

The EO Mechanical Engineering team works closely with the sensor design team, manufacturing engineering, and systems engineering and is expected to support the engineering development team from conceptual design phases through preliminary and critical design, build, test and delivery of complex Electro-Optical Sensors.

Position is with the Space EO Sensor Systems department in El Segundo, California.

Must have a minimum of 10 years of related work experience.

Job Related Activities: Lead and own the design, documentation, and implementation of sensor opto-mechanical hardware.

Actively work with Space Systems Program Management, Systems Engineering, and Customers to develop and manage objectives and requirements for related pursuits and projects.

Build and lead a Space Systems Mechanical Engineering Team to successfully design and document solutions to meet program objectives and requirements.

Lead the management of subcontractors required for the development of Space Sensor-related equipment.

Lead the management of platform modifications required for the implementation of Space Sensor equipment and related subsystems.

Comply with Export/Import (EX/IM) regulations and policies and support Jurisdiction Classification Assessments (JCAs) as needed.

Ensure the consistent application of engineering best practice and that all activities undertaken under your control are conducted to common standards in accordance with Raytheon’s IPDS processes.

Required Skills: Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in Space EO sensor design.

Hands on experience in Electro-optical sensor design, build and test.

Experience with industry standard CAD software such as Creo.

Experience with Geometric Tolerancing (GD&T).

Experience with project and small team leadership.

Strong communication and customer presentation skills.

Experience maintaining positive customer and supplier relationships U.S.

Citizenship is required as this position requires an SSBI clearance day one of employment.

Citizenship status is required as this position will require the ability to access US only data systems.

Desired Skills: Leadership skills relevant towards leading a group of highly skilled Thermal analysts supporting a variety of programs across SAS, primarily in Space Systems but also other business units.

Engineering skills relevant towards reviewing and providing guidance on thermal analysis trade studies, work product, and program reviews for members of your team.

Experience and willingness towards mentoring and ensuring the continued growth of all levels of team members through knowledge transfer, training and exposure to the space thermal community (symposia, conferences, etc).

Willingness to ensure that junior engineers have consistent access to senior engineers to review work and provide guidance.

Willingness to provide timely feedback to team members throughout the year, and to ensure sufficient reviews are provided by peers and program leads during mid-term and end of year assessments.

Experience and ability towards addressing program issues quickly with the analyst team along with reviewing, supporting, and defending analyst team results.

Capable of guiding the creation and maintenance of analysis methodologies through released enablers, to serve as a way to train new personnel and also to provide a baseline process for consistency of work from program to program.

Willingness to serve as a program’s liaison supplying analysts in support of program tasks.

Willingness to act as the responsible agent towards requesting and obtaining software tools and licenses to enable efficient analysis work.

Capable of leading, developing, and owning the EO sensor design standards, documentation, and the implementation of EO hardware to meet program objectives and requirements.

Willingness to actively work with Program Management, Systems Engineering, and Customers to develop and manage objectives and requirements for related pursuits and projects.

Willingness to lead the management of subcontractors required for the development of EO related equipment.

Willingness to ensure that Export/Import (EX/IM) regulations and policies are followed along with supporting Jurisdiction Classification Assessments (JCAs).

Willingness to ensure the consistent application of engineering best practice and that all activities undertaken under your control are conducted to common standards in accordance with Raytheon’s processes.

Required Education (Including major): Must have Bachelor’s Degree from an ABET accredited university with a major in Mechanical Engineering or other related STEM field.

Desired Education: Graduate degree in an EO related field.
