Structured Cabling Lead Technician

Abernathy Communications, LLC

This is a Full-time position in Houston, TX posted November 25, 2021.

We are looking for a senior-level structured cabling technician with 5 plus years of experience in low voltage cable and a minimum of 1 year in a lead position is required.

A Senior level technician who has additional responsibilities including testing with Fluke Versiv/DTX troubleshooting voice and data communications systems, DMARCs, Pots lines / cross connects.

This could require thorough knowledge of fiber optic installation, including splicing and advance test techniques.

The supervisor typically participates in cabling work, while supervising the work of the installation team.

Supervisor oversees on-site team(s) of voice/data technicians.

Supervisor can identify installation issues and direct appropriate courses of action.

Possess familiarity with a variety of field-based concepts, practices, and all procedures.

Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

Leads and directs the work of others.

A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

Tools required for this position: Punch down tool, Snips/Electricians Scissors, flash light, drywall saw, screw driver set and Level, reciprocating saw, electric drill, glow rods, mod-tap tester, RJ-45 crimpers

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Pulling and routing CAT5 or CAT6 cable in a new construction and existing structure commercial environment
Terminating, troubleshooting, and testing data outlets
Installing support structures (ladder rack, basket tray, J-hooks)
Building out cable closets (MDF/IDFs)
Terminating, troubleshooting, and testing Fiber optic cable and connections (UniCam)
Adhere to all required project safety requirements as set forth by the Company and OSHA
Maintain the company’s high standard of quality and professionalism with regards to workmanship, customer relations, coworkers, behavior and appearance
Physical Requirements:
Must be self-motivated, positive in approach, and present a professional image.
Must possess critical thinking skills as well the ability to effectively read, write and give oral presentation(s)
Must be able to act as the Company liaison for interface with customer representative(s)
Must have proven skill level to interpret blueprints and other service documents, including but not limited to, specifications, reporting and quality requirements
Must be able to work at heights, off of a ladder and in confined spaces, lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, LICENSE, & SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess at least a High School diploma or equivalent required
Must know or possess the knowledge to learn Company/industry codes
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook )
Must have reliable transportation
Strong work ethic, “can do” attitude and desire to provide best service
Must be on time and reliable
Must be able to work at heights, off of a ladder and in confined spaces, lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds
Must be able to see and distinguish different colors, read small print and hear and recognize audible signals such as dial tones
Must meet Company minimum driving standards
Any industry certs a huge plus.
