The Senior Solutions Architect is accountable for proactively and holistically leading or supporting EA activities for creating deliverables that guide the developing direction for managing a portfolio of solutions in response to disruptive forces, and driving achieving targeted business outcomes. Solutions include systems (including applications, technologies, processes and information), shared infrastructure services and shared application services.
Solutions architects provide the necessary leadership, analysis and design tasks related to the development of an enterprise’s solutions architecture. This individual creates deliverables that help develop a direction for managing the organization’s portfolio of “to be” and “as is” solutions — including systems (meaning not just applications, but also processes and information), shared infrastructure services, and shared application services and components to better match targeted business outcome objectives.
This role requires significant people and process skills as there is need to work often in front of multiple management layers, and will need to be able to explain a complex problem in laymen’s terms. They have to find ways to say the same thing using different words for different types of audiences, and they also need to really understand the business’ processes in order to create a cohesive vision of a usable product.
This person strengthens the impact of, and provides recommendations on, business information that will need to be available and shared consistently across the organization through the identification, definition and analysis of how information assets aid strategies and business outcomes.
Responsibilities/Activities:
- Determines overall architectural principles, frameworks, and standards for local IT teams
- Defines software architecture and enterprise capabilities (scalability, extensibility, maintainability, etc.).
- Drives research, case studies, and prototypes on leading edge technologies and determines how they can be leveraged.
- Discovers the data and analytics requirements for information for all uses
- Establishes roadmaps and delivers architectural programs that align with business strategies.
- Ensures consistency and maintainability of existing applications by creating, maintaining, and enforcing standards/procedures and managing solutions within the Digital Business and Innovation team.
- Contributes and governs the use of standards and frameworks for mobile applications, web-based applications, and the implementation of DHL services.
- Builds strong relationships with with DHL Enterprise Architects to leverage existing DHL services and to increase knowledge of DHL IT portfolio.
- Develops architectural metrics and reports.
- Drives continuous improvement initiatives across the Digital Business and Innovation team to enable efficiency.
- Analyzes complex business needs presented by the Digital Business and Innovation team and recommends technical solutions.
- Communicates architectural decisions, plans, goals, and strategies
- Collaborates with third party vendors to integrate DHL services.

- Bachelor’s degree (BA) in Business or Communications from four-year College or University preferred
- 5+ years of experience in multiple IT solution development disciplines including technical architecture, network management, application development, middleware, database management or operations
- Exposure to multiple, diverse technologies and processing environments
- Good understanding of strategic and new and emerging technology trends, and the practical application of existing, new and emerging technologies to new and evolving business and operating models
