What You Will Do

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with expertise and experience in electrical engineering to participate in the execution of our portfolio of scientific and national security programs.

The Intelligence and Space Research (ISR) Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory has been designing, building, and operating highly innovative ground, air and space-based measurement and detection systems for nearly 60 years.

We solve some of the most challenging scientific and national security problems facing the world today.

Our interdisciplinary teams of engineers, technicians, and scientists work, learn, and succeed through a highly creative and dynamic R&D environment.

We lead experiments on NASA missions, including the Perseverance and Curiosity Rovers at Mars, Van Allen Probes, and IBEX as well as the upcoming IMAP Mission, NACHOS hyperspectral cubesat, and BEAMPIE rocket experiment.

We also build, fly, operate, and analyze data from measurement systems deployed to space for verification of international nuclear treaties, and develop innovative sensors and ground, airborne and space hardware/software systems for basic scientific missions, nuclear nonproliferation, space situational awareness and remote sensing.

ISR-4 is a specialized space electronics and signal processing group, with a focus on electronics for measurement systems as well as onboard electronics for converting data collected by these systems into meaningful information.

While the focus is mostly on systems deployed to space, we also develop portable ground stations and payload test equipment.The group’s projects receive funding and requirements from various government agencies including the DOE, DOD, and NASA.Projects are executed through a close interaction between all disciplines of engineers, technicians, and scientists, which fosters a highly creative and dynamic research and development environment.Projects are developed from concept through development and launch, as well as operational support after launch or field deployment.For more information, see the ISR-4: Space Electronics and Signal Processing home page.

ISR-4 is looking for highly motivated early to mid-career electrical engineers to assist in the development of specialized instrumentation for various space-based detection systems.

These systems can include:

Measurement systems led by Los Alamos for the United States Nuclear Detonation Detection System for verification of nuclear treaties;

Measurement systems for Earth, planetary, heliophysics, and astrophysical science missions;

Payload and bus systems for small, agile satellites for science and national security.

We are looking for enthusiastic electrical engineers with interest in digital design, analog design, power supply design or RF design.Responsibilities include developing innovative approaches to specialized applications, and subsequent design, modeling, implementation, verification and testing of electrical circuits and/or FPGAs.

Success of our workforce and programs is enabled by our emphasis on creativity, teaming, technical leadership, and continuous learning within a small team environment.
