DESCRIPTION
The Engineer shall be able to develop construction plans including electrical layout and details and construction specifications. Design requirements will include all types of building lighting, power and electrical systems. The selected candidate will work with the current Senior Electrical staff. The successful candidate will have experience with the design of building electrical systems. They will work in multi-disciplinary, collaborative project design teams with architects, interior designers, civil engineers, and other building systems engineers. Other job responsibilities include
- Perform complex analysis, calculations, design, evaluation and inspection for a specific area of technical expertise which includes Electrical Power, Lighting, Telecommunications, Electronic Security Systems, Intercom, Public Address, Audiovisual, and additional special systems to support project objectives.
- Utilize AutoCAD and Revit software to complete construction drawings. Also, use Revit as an engineering tool to design the electrical systems including device layout, power circuiting, lighting design, panel schedules, etc.
- Review project requirements and specifications and confer with other disciplines and managers to determine assistance required in plan preparation, evaluation of project conditions, design changes and reports.
- Front-facing to clients. Perform client and project needs assessments, determine and discuss potential solutions, and ensure satisfactory customer service. Also, attend project meetings to present design concepts and make adjustments to meet client requirements.
- Prepare and present technical and program information to team members, management, and clients in a clear and logical manner.
- Complete design tasks by detailing the scope of work, conducting the analysis, inspecting the site, reviewing the requirements to assure the quality of the assigned task.
- Coordinate or perform field work to gather data and materials.
- Maintain a working knowledge of government and industry design criteria and standards.
- Perform quality control procedures such as reviewing project deliverables prior to client submissions also performing an internal technical review of other engineer’s designs.
- Create a good line of communication with both internal and external customers.
- Edit and review technical specifications and prepare a written narrative as part of the project deliverables.
- Review shop drawings and submittals, answer RFI’s and perform site visits as needed during the construction phase.
- Prepare design fees for project manager or contractors as required as part of proposal or RFP process.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
- 10+ years of related experience required for this position
- Professional engineering (PE) license in Utah and ability to acquire licenses in other states
- Experience in building electrical design
- Experience with the National Electrical Code and basic low voltage power calculations
- Ability to demonstrate excellent communication skills to effectively interface and communicate with team members, customers, subcontractors, and vendors
- Familiarity with government, client, and industry local codes, regulations, and standards governing design and construction projects
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Outlook) and PDF software such as Adobe or Bluebeam
- Ability to be self-motivated and to research and troubleshoot problems as they arise
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deliverable deadlines
- Complete work in efficient and accurate manner
- Availability to occasionally travel to project locations
Other preferred skills include:
- Experience with Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD
- Medium voltage design experienced
- Lightning protection system design experience
- Cathodic protection system design experience
- LEED Certification (LEED GA, LEED AP, etc.)
- Knowledge of Unified Facilities Criteria
- Knowledge of SKM or Easy Power electrical simulation software
- Knowledge of Visual Pro or AGI32 lighting design software
