Summary: New York Edge is seeking passionate and enthusiastic people to fill the seasonal role of Summer Day Camp Counselor.

In this role, you will be critical to the successful operation of the Summer Day Camp program.

You will be responsible for providing a safe and positive environment for school age children, to provide opportunities for learning, interaction and academic/personal growth.

Schedule: Part-Time Shifts Monday
– Friday/8am
– 6pm (individual shifts vary) Remote: No, this role requires you to be in-person.

Pay: $16.00/hr Job Type: Seasonal/Temporary (7 weeks) Essential Job Functions: Ensure the health, safety and well-being of participants in the program by providing appropriate supervision at all times.

Be an agent of safety for campers.

This includes taking responsibility for one’s own well-being and the well-being of others.

Assist in COVID-19 wellness screenings and health related concerns.

Keep immediate supervisor informed daily of any concerns regarding participants, staff, or the facility.

Engage day camp participants in meaningful activities, lesson plans and special events that are structured, age
– appropriate, fun, exciting, challenging, and values based in the areas of arts, STEM, character development, literacy, creative expression, community service, physical fitness and/or nutrition.

Prepare the learning environment and necessary supplies for program activities.

Assume responsibility for the cleanliness and organization of the camp room, program supplies, and activity space.

Support the planning and implementation of all camp activities, including but not limited to summer learning initiatives, field trips, in-camp events, and culminating performances.

Provide support to Activity Specialists with activity implementation.

Create and maintain a strength-based, youth-focused atmosphere that is consistent and sensitive to the needs of participants with learning, emotional, or behavioral differences.

Serve as a positive role model for participants.

Develop and maintain positive relationships with parents and guardians through regular communication about their child’s strengths and areas of growth.

Take a leadership role in providing regular updates to caregivers.

Attend all required pre-camp trainings.

Actively participate in training sessions, designated meetings and special events.

Ensure that groups are in ratio.

Ensure program, staff and patrons maintain hygiene habits/practices in accordance with CDC guidelines.

Required Skills: Possess a desire to work directly with children Ability to work as a team member Responsible, friendly, enthusiastic, actively engaged and patient Ability to follow directions and adhere to all policies/procedures Open to feedback with a desire to grow professionally Must have reliable communication/computer devices at home with capacity to access internet consistently in order to respond to organizational emails as well as complete training prior to the start of camp Qualifications: Must be at least 18 years old before July 1st, 2021 High School Diploma required; some college preferred Experience working with children strongly preferred Must be able to work the entire length of Summer Day Camp program Must be able to attend all pre-camp trainings in June To apply: visit www.newyorkedge.org/careers The Summer Day Camp Counselor will be required to report to the school building and interact with staff, students, parents and school administration while following DOH Covid-19 guidelines such as wearing PPE and remaining socially distant.
