Professor of Architecture (Building Design)

The School of Architecture and Planning at The Catholic University of America seeks to fill a tenure-track Professor of Architecture position in Building Design to begin Fall Semester – August, 2022.

The Catholic University’s School of Architecture and Planning invites applications and nominations for this position.

The School welcomes applications from architects willing and able to engage in reasoned, serious, and open debate about how various aesthetic traditions can serve the common good in different places and cultures.

The ideal candidate will take a long view of architecture and the human condition.

That individual should seek to teach the art of building through the lens of Building Design to help students understand, preserve, and carry forward the traditions of vernacular, classical, and contemporary architecture in the service of building communities.

POSITION LOCATION: The Catholic University of America, Washington, DC

POSITION’S DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Course Instruction: The appointed candidate will teach building design, offer lecture courses, and conduct seminars in their area(s) of expertise.

Knowledge of and skill with digital technologies consistent with current professional practices of architecture is required.

School and University Service: In addition to formal academic student advising, the position requires Service responsibilities including but not limited to service on school and university committees.

Research and Research Equivalents: Continuing progress throughout one’s appointment on scholarship, research, and/or significant built works is a position requirement; as is an on-going record of peer-reviewed publication of the candidate’s work.

Cover letter, including a summary of professional accomplishments and research interest;
Curriculum Vitae;
Portfolio of work samples and/or publications designed, formatted and presented as a single print volume or digital file (not larger than 100MB);
Name and contact information for three or more academic and/or professional references.

Letters of recommendation will be required for the finalists;
A one or two-page statement indicating how the applicant’s research, teaching, and service will make a distinctive contribution to The Catholic University’s mission and to the vision of Catholic education outlined in the Apostolic Constitution on Catholic Universities – Ex Corde Ecclesiae.
