Process Architect

Pacific Life is embarking on a multi-year initiative to invest in dynamic people and technology, ensuring a bright future for our customers and community. To support this process, we are looking for a talented Process Architect to join our team in Newport Beach, CA.  

As Process Architect, you’ll play a key role in the Digital Transformation Automation Team responsible for shaping and implementing solutions that transform the customer experience and drive process efficiencies. You’ll provide consultative expertise in systems analysis and core automation tools and capabilities, as well as overseeing platform delivery, architectural review and delivery of technical requirements.

As a part of a dedicated, self-organizing, cross-functional, Agile team, you’ll have a broad knowledge of Retirement Solutions Division Operations processes and assume end-to-end responsibility for digital automation product decisions and outcomes. What You’ll Do

  • Partner with vendors and system providers to assess platform capabilities and find opportunities for cost savings, productivity, process streamlining, simplification and improved user experience (system consolidation, real-time transparency, seamlessly integrated systems, etc.)
  • Partner with key business stakeholders to understand current and future business needs and provide sustainable and cost-effective technology solutions; oversee automation quality, automation delivery, resource planning and day to day management of contract development staff
  • Collaborate with peers across our technology organization to ensure automation platforms integrations are designed to support continued platform and ecosystem enhancements with limited interdependencies
  • Ensure operational management and stability of automation platforms; including performance testing, security compliance, SLA and incident management
  • Engage in and support the design-driven automation development practices; stay abreast of shifting needs within each business group, assisting in identifying priorities where Automation tools and technology can be leveraged to more effectively support the business
  • Work with Product Managers to assess business requirements and analyze and evaluate business needs, requirements, data, processes, and systems for complex automation projects
  • Write detailed functional and technical specifications, and prepare other systems and functional documentation such as flow charts, process design documents, use cases, and test scripts
  • Recommend project scope, facilitate and participate in application design sessions and lead development of automation solutions; prepare time estimates for completing technical builds and assist in overall automation scope definition, management and project tracking
  • Represent Automation team in business meetings and vendor discussions; identify change impact to business processes from automation solutions and work proactively with HR Business Partners and Change Management teams to mitigate impact of change
  • Troubleshoot production problems on the automation platforms and act as liaison among business areas, Digital Transformation teams and Technology teams, keep all parties informed of status, and coordinate problem resolution; may guide, advise, and/or train less experienced staff

Tech & Tools You’ll Use

Agile methodology, Contract administration systems (Vantage, wmA, DSS, FAST), Automation and RPA tools (UI Path, Blue Prism, Appian, Automation Anywhere)

Factors for Success

  • Bachelor’s (BA or BS) in an analytical field, computer science, or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of business analysis and/or systems analysis experience in a Financial Services application development environment (Annuity and/or Life Insurance preferred)
  • Deep understanding and technical capability for system design and business strategy, ability to translate strategy into viable technology solutions
  • Experience running vendor selection process for automation tool and delivery capabilities
  • Excellent collaboration and facilitation skills including the ability to bring together various teams and resources to deliver results
  • Experience delivering stable, scalable and maintainable integrated solutions through collaborative partnerships across multiple technology teams and stakeholders
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; the ability to express complex technical concepts in business terms
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; solid teamwork and interpersonal skills
