Overview BigBear.ai is seeking a Principal Cloud Architect to lead the shaping of requirements for the largest and most challenging cloud environments including their automated development / security / operations (DevSecOps), guide and significantly contribute to solving the hard problems of those solutions, support customer and capture engagements to demonstrate our differentiation, and mentor technologists across the company.
The successful candidate will have multiple successes with cloud-native deployments where they provided leadership and support to operationalize software systems.
The Principal Cloud Architect will have broad exposure to multiple programs and projects across BigBear.ai coupled with the ability to directly influence design and implementation.
They will discern and champion the best practices for cloud and DevSecOps, ensuring that “the BigBear way” is consistent, pushes the envelope of what is possible, and differentiated.
You will educate our clients and staff to help them understand what we can achieve, then take a leading hands-on role solving the hardest problems and shepherding the process of getting projects started following your designs.

What you will do
Perform the most senior design and development tasks for cloud engineering and DevSecOps on projects
Support solution development and writing of technical proposals
Successfully select, provision, and integrate cloud and automation services to meet end-to-end solution requirements.
Ensure cloud architecture and DevSecOps documentation is robust
Act as a visionary trusted customer liaison and “product manager” in our most complicated accounts
Provide ongoing advice to projects around technical solutions, best practices, and efficiencies
Maintain awareness and expertise of the latest cloud and infrastructure, orchestration, and automation visualization technologies in order to proactively support the adoption of truly beneficial new capabilities
Mentor staff as assigned
Work with product development teams to ensure customer functional requirements are fully considered, best practices and differentiated learnings are shared, and a single Bigbear.ai identity is supported
What you need to have
3+ years (MINIMUM) of proven successful design, development, and deployment of multiple complex or large-scale distributed processing applications
Hands-on technical expertise with implementing and managing cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, etc) per Federal government compliance guidelines (FedRamp)
Involvement in multiple implementations of continuous integration tools, such as Bamboo, Jenkins, or Microsoft TFS
Multiple examples of personally creating infrastructure provisioning and configuration scripts using Terraform, Puppet, Chef, Ansible, AWS Cloud Formation, or other frameworks
Experience configuring event/log forwarders and aggregators to monitor and debug operations, for example with Elastic, Logstash, Kibana, Grafana, Splunk, or AWS CloudWatch
Successful management of an elastically scalable and multi-region application, especially one using load balancing, an API gateway or management service (especially Mulesoft), distributed processing platforms (like AWS EMR, Kafka, Spark, or Hadoop) and Kubernetes or serverless container fabrics (like AWS Fargate)
Experience creating, orchestrating, and debugging containers and container fabrics (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.)
Programming in at least two of the following: Bash, Perl, Python, Ruby, Go, Swift, Java, .Net, or C++
Cloud Migration methodologies and best practices
AWS, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure certification
Able to match customer requirements to appropriate technologies and approaches, describe the pros and cons of each option, and provide optimal recommendations
Able to communicate complex technical concepts to external business and technical audiences, and write at a level appropriate for a senior executive
Experience working for a federal defense contractor
Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance

Active TS clearance with SCI
Familiarity with Military Intel, Federal Cloud Computing Strategy, and other Federal Standards
Network security experience / certification
DoD Manual 8570 approved baseline IAT Level II certification ( ), like Security+
