Prin Electrical EngineerLocation:Northridge, California, United StatesRequisition #:20000L16Post Date:Jan 05, 2021**CAREERS THAT CHANGE LIVES:**Medtronic Diabetes is looking for a Principal Level Electrical Engineer for the Manufacturing Engineering group to lead the support of design, development, documentation and test of novel electronic systems with analog, digital and RF circuits for both AC line powered and battery-operated microcontroller/microprocessor based medical devices.
In this exciting role you will also lead the design and development of automated test systems or subsystems for testing the devices described above in both laboratory and manufacturing test environments.You will lead the electrical engineering function on projects, representing Manufacturing Engineering within the Product Development teams, supporting the generation of electrical hardware requirements, electrical system design, electronic circuit design, embedded software development, developing test requirements and test procedures as well as PC-based simulation and data acquisition.
Qualified candidates are able to write detailed electrical specifications for electrical testers, generate and review, test specifications and test reports in compliance with design control procedures.
Exposure to the medical device industry is preferred.

• Support the design, development and test of both hardware and software of commercialized medical devices and automated test systems
• Collaborate with manufacturing, operations and engineering functions to troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing issues, ensure successful product launch and facilitate transition of manufacturing activities to the operations group
• Provide guidance to engineering on design concepts and specifications that best utilize manufacturing equipment and manufacturing techniques.
• Assist engineering with design releases and help process various Engineering Changes (ECR/ECO) as needed.
• Participate in engineering teams that design high reliability microprocessor based systems including DFMA, architectural tradeoffs, digital/analog/RF circuits, embedded C/C++ and ultra-low power battery circuits.
• Work closely with Mechanical, Software, Manufacturing and other science/engineering disciplines to achieve project schedules and goals.
• Represent the Manufacturing Engineering function in the Product Development Team and Program Office to communicate strategy, plans, schedules, progress and accomplishments
• Supports the implementation of component replacement for end of life and continuous improvement projects
• Implement Design for Reliability and Manufacturability (DRM) principles within the functional area
• Support Manufacturing in troubleshooting operations involving medical devices through assembly and test
• Provide technical assistance to other functional departments such as Production, Quality and Reliability
• Review, develop, and document circuit and device level tester requirements.
• Support, debug, and qualification of manufacturing test equipment (PCBA and Device).
• Work independently, in consultation with an Engineering Manager

• Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.
• Review manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining and material handling.
• Review arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout.
• Assist the Quality Assurance team with CM inquiries, audits, FAs and corrective/preventive action activities.

• Travel up to 25% of the time required**Must Have: Minimum Requirements****BASIC MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS****IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION, THE FOLLOWING BASIC QUALIFICATIONS MUST BE EVIDENT ON YOUR RESUME**Bachelors degree requiredMinimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience**NICE TO HAVE:**
• MS Electrical Engineering
• 8 or more years in one or more of the following: medical device design, ultra-low power battery operated systems, embedded microcontroller/microprocessor system design
• 5+ years experience in the testing and assembly of digital, analog, power and RF circuit design for embedded microcontroller systems
• Strong knowledge of formal PCBA documentation (schematics, PCB fabrication drawings, PCB assembly drawings)
• Strong knowledge of state of the art PCB fabrication technology (SMT, BGA, blind and buried microvia, flex circuits, etc.) and assembly
• Experience supporting engineering teams in the design and development of electronics hardware and software for products and test equipment
• Working knowledge of LabView or similar automated test software
• Experience with creating optimal strategies, schedules and plans towards the development of electronic systems
• Strong experience in technical report writing and presentations
• Fundamental knowledge of other related disciplines towards the understanding of how they affect electrical systems
• Basic laboratory instruments and tools experience (e.g.
DMM, oscilloscope, logic analyzer, spectrum analyzer)
• Lean Six Sigma experience
• Ability to work in a team environment; strong collaboration skills
• Effective verbal and written communication
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements that pertain to medical device electronic systems
• Knowledge of schematic design and layout using CAD tools for PCB design such as OrCAD, Cadence Allegro and/or Altium Designer
• Knowledge of manufacturing test equipment design
• Knowledge of the implementation of standardized radios such as Bluetooth Low Energy
• Working knowledge of 3D electromagnetic simulation software (e.g.
Ansys HFSS, CST Microwave Studio)
