Oculus: Electrical Engineering Prototyping Intern

The Input Explorations team is a multi-disciplinary, cross-functional team that performs exploratory pathfinding for new input devices and technologies in AR/VR, with a heavy focus on the end-user experience.

Our team is seeking an electrical engineering prototyping intern to support pathfinding on new/improved inputs and feedback mechanisms for next generation VR controllers.

As an intern you would support design, assembly, and test of electro-mechanical prototypes, and perform first-order technical integration feasibility analysis.

Circuit Design & SimulationPrototype Fabrication & AssemblyPrototype Testing/CharacterizationSupport Prototype Integration into VR Software Experiences Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a Bachelors or Masters in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related fieldMust obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employmentExperience with schematic capture, layout, and simulationExperience with hardware test & validation, and abilityto use common lab test equipment (e.G.

Oscilloscopes, Logic Analyzers, DMMs, Power Supplies, Current Probes, Temperature Chambers, etc.)Experience with troubleshooting and diagnosing hardware issues at board levelExperience with cross-functional collaborationStrong documentation & communication skillsBasic understanding of various communication protocols (I2C, SPI, UART, USB, etc.) Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Applied Math or a related STEM fieldOrcad/Cadence circuit design experiencePrior internship experienceIntent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internshipExperience with capacitive touch sensing, haptic feedbackExperience with other input sensing technologies such as IMUs, proximity sensors, hall sensors, optical sensors, biosensors, cameras, etc.Experience writing firmware for standard microcontrollersExperience with power budget modelingPython scripting experience (for data visualization and/or automation)Consumer electronics/mass production experience Facebook’s mission is to give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together.
