Armstrong World Industries, Inc., (AWI) has Summer Mechanical Engineering Internship opportunities to be located within our manufacturing plant in Marietta, PA, Macon, GA or Pensacola, FL.

Working under the supervision and guidance of an experienced engineer, the Engineering Interns are expected to have the technical savvy to understand Armstrong products, processes, and test requirements.

The Engineering teams are seeking highly motivated Interns who have an interest in manufacturing along with excellent leadership capabilities.

Engineering Internship Program Offerings:

Mechanical
– Capital Engineering Intern:

  • Completing an assigned engineering project during the term of the internship
  • Contributing to a number of ongoing capital engineering projects in various areas of the plant
  • Gaining experience and exposure to the Project Management & Life Cycle:
    • Preparation of project specifications and requirements
    • Project schedule coordination
    • Project Management tools
    • Installation oversight
    • Project closing and sustainability
  • Gaining experience and exposure to:
    • Safe working practices
    • Large scale manufacturing facility and equipment
    • AutoCAD drawings, updating existing and creating new
    • Conveying, combustion, fluid, and pneumatic transfer systems

Mechanical/Maintenance Engineering Intern

  • Under the supervision and guidance of an experienced engineer, you will be assigned engineering projects that can be completed during the term of your internship and you will also be contributing to a number of ongoing capital engineering projects in various areas of the plant. 
  • You will gain experience and exposure to Equipment Reliability to include: asset management, process improvement, capital management and execution, contractor integration and management, and development of machine maintenance best practices (PM, PdM, etc.)

Experience:

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, cumulative and within major
  • Must be a maximum of 24 months away from graduation
  • Previous internship in manufacturing environment preferred
  • AutoCad experience preferred

Skills & Abilities:

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, with the specific ability to work in teams
  • Capability to build relationships with other functions within Armstrong
  • Well-developed computer skills including Windows and Microsoft Office
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, ability to work independently and make autonomous decisions when necessary
  • Unlimited authorization to work in the United States
  • Must be able to climb ladders and walk catwalks, etc., in order to monitor, direct and validate equipment and installations
