Infrastructure Sr Engineer (Lead Packaging and Deployment Automation)

Application Products Center of Excellence (APCoE) is responsible for oversight and management of third party software products approved for use within Wells Fargo. APCoE consists of Product Management, Product Solutions and Support Management, Implementation Management as well as Operational Health. APCoE is directly and indirectly responsible for support of nearly 3000 commercially off the shelf software products. The Product Solutions and Support Management Team are seeking a software packaging engineer to assist with the automation, packaging and upkeep of these products. With the number of products and consumers, staying on top of product lifecycle and overall patch currency is always a challenge.

We are seeking a Lead Software Packaging/Endpoint Management Engineer who will work closely with software and systems engineers in a collaborative agile team environment to ensure quality service delivery to the Wells Fargo supported applications, systems and software solutions teams.

This role will be responsible for creating and testing Windows software installation packages, their maintenance, customer support and developing automated testing methods, reducing the need for manual tasks, and producing detailed status / health reporting metrics that reflect the operational health of our applications, tools, and testing efforts. Primary Enterprise deployment tools include Microsoft Endpoint Manager – Configuration Manager, Puppet and Ansible. We are looking for a highly motivated individual who is looking to help us lead our team and can thrive in our fast-paced and agile team environment.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of packaging applications with transforms (license/registry keys, configuration files, and installation data) that are necessary to accomplish the request; as well as testing new Windows features and patches / hot fixes as needed.

They should also be comfortable working with (sometimes non-technical) Application Owners to create the packaging requirements. This position will lead, train, and mentor our current Infrastructure Engineering team in this new technology and may interface with leaders in multiple domains.

You will be part of the team both physical and virtual, primarily based in Des Moines, IA, Minneapolis, MN, Phoenix, AZ as well as Hyderabad, India, that is developing the packaging and quality assurance of the software components that are supported and maintained by APCoE.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • May serve as a work leader, in a non-supervisory leadership position, having job-related responsibilities to lead project assignments in a broad or specialty area.
  • Perform enterprise application discovery, work with requesters to obtain requirements, settings, preferences and custom parameters
  • Hands on development, standardization, and management of all software deployments / packaging
  • Applies optimal testing techniques and performs verification of software installation packages.
  • Researches and troubleshoots installation package defects and makes necessary coding adjustments
  • Participates in the functional and specification reviews and works closely with stakeholders to ensure software install packages meet quality and performance requirements.
  • Deliver estimated package completion dates with regular activity, status and progress reporting for electronic delivery.
  • Communicates status and escalates complex packaging issues
  • Responsible for automating the installation and configuration of (packaging) Windows products, product hotfixes, and vulnerability fixes.
  • Leverages Agile methods to deliver solutions
  • Passion for professional and technical growth that can show itself through continuous learning, training and certification.
  • Uses a mixture of analysis, business acumen, experience and judgment to make high level decisions to determine scripting language needed. Consistently applies continuous improvement opportunities and lessons learned to current decisions.
  • Stays abreast of emerging market and industry opportunities in the tools space. Provides feedback and review regarding these opportunities to management.

 

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of systems analysis experience, systems programming experience or combination of both
  • 5+ years experience with Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager
  • 5+ years of experience with software packaging products such as Microsoft Windows Installer, Wise, or Admin Studio
  • 5 + years of experience with Windows server operating systems
  • 4+ years of experience with scripting languages such as Bash, PowerShell, Python, Shell, VBScript, or JavaScript
  • 2 + years of leadership experience including coaching, training, and mentoring

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in managing IT infrastructure for a medium-to-large organization
  • Relationship management experience with organizational partners and customers
  • 5+ years of experience with Agile, Kanban, or Lean methodology
  • Practical knowledge of ITIL application processes and implementation
  • Ability to integrate vendor software into localized deployment processes

Other Desired Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge and demonstrated technical proficiency in Microsoft Systems Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) Microsoft Endpoint Manager, with experience in managing medium to large environments, be able to troubleshoot all aspects of SCCM/MEM effectively and understand the product flow patch management, software distribution and logging in detail.
  • Strong Windows Installation knowledge in using relevant Windows installation components and third-party tools such as InstallShield, Process Explorer, Process Monitor, Orca, MSI Diff, Registry editor
