(GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.We have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer in our Electro-Mechanical Actuation team within the Mechanical Engineering group at the ASI Division.
Under limited supervision, this position is responsible for development and support of new and/or existing actuation product for GA-ASI aircraft platforms.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Design of Electro-Mechanical Actuation systems or components.Analysis or power drive train system and components (gears, bearings, power screws, etc) for stress, life and environmental considerations.Support with production of existing and/or new product via troubleshooting failures, process improvements and/or design and cost improvements.Coordination within other GA-ASI teams including; electrical engineering,software, systems engineering, program planning, program management and project engineering.Engineering risk reduction and qualification testing of hardware for performance, life and environmental requirements which may occur in a lab environment or on aircraft.Integration of actuation product with other components within the aircraft for successful operation.Support trade studies for new actuation product.Support of proposals (technical solutions) for new aircraft efforts or modifications to existing aircraft.Act as a subject matter expert within one or more areas of actuation.Develop project plans in coordination with project team members.Operate in accordance with established company policies and procedure.Directs activities of design or technical staff and may lead a team of moderately experienced professional staff.Act in accordance with best practices for a safe working environment.Perform other activities as required in support of mechanical engineering scope of interest.Maintain confidentiality of company sensitive information.Support internal design reviews by development of material for review.Provide support of internal customers including coordination of information.Provide support of fielded product with quick-turn resolution of issues.We recognize and appreciate the value and contributions of individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences and welcome all qualified individuals to apply.Job Qualifications:Typically requires a bachelors or masters degree in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and six or more years of engineering experience with a bachelors degree.Experience with rotary and/or linear power drive systems.Experience with CAD software.Able to work extended hours as required.Proficiency with Microsoft office suite.Ability to effectively communicate issues and proposed solutionsPositive attitude within a collaborative team environment.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSKnowledge of gear design, analysis and manufacturing processes.Background in aerospace field.Experience with aerospace qualification process.Strengths in electro-magnetic design (motors) is highly valued.Knowledge with servo control systems.Experience with KiSSsoft, ANSYS, MATLAB, CREO and NX Software desirable.
