The ideal candidate will have experience designing optical components in a multidisciplinary environment, understanding how to evaluate tradeoffs between manufacturability, cost, thermal, mechanical, electrical and optical performance and reliability.

At Fathom Radiant, you will work closely with teams of mechanical engineers, packaging engineers, optical lens designers and optoelectronic device designers.

You will lead the effort from concept through manufacturing.Areas of ContributionWork closely with Fathom Radiant’s various technical teams to enable unique and novel optoelectronic-electronic integrated systemsLead requirements definition, design, simulation and prototyping of the optical components for Fathom’s optical-electronic computer system, with components ranging from micro-optics mounts to micro-positioning systems to precision connectors.Design for environmental robustness (NVH, thermal, etc.) and reliabilityPrototype mechanical components and systems, analyze optical stability and performance in operationAnalyze mechanical tolerance impact on optical performance at the component and system levelWork closely with manufacturing partners to understand constraints and capabilities of manufacturing and automated assembly; design for manufacturingTransition prototype designs to volume manufacturingRequirements for this roleB.S., MS, or PhD in physics, mechanical engineering, or equivalent knowledge.Minimum 3 years experience in opto-mechanical engineering.Experience with precision mechanism design and assembly, error budgeting/tolerance stackup, GD& T and design for manufacturing and assembly.Nice-to-havesExperience designing opto-mechanical systems for imaging systemsExperience with micro-opticsExperience with systems that combine lenslets with traditional lensesFamiliarity or experience with wavefront measurement metrologyExperience with optical ray tracing software (Zemax, Code V, etc.)Experience leading and managing engineering projectsExperience working with and managing contract manufacturers for component manufacturing and system assemblyYou’ll do well here if…You’re motivated to build something that hasn’t been built beforeYou’re kind, enjoy thoughtful discussions fueled by problem-solving and logic, and care about our mission to positively influence the trajectory of artificial intelligenceYou find large challenges exciting and enjoy discovering and defining problems as much as solving them.You deliver.
