Responsibilities Evaluate the scope and technology readiness of a project and recommend the technical skills needed for successful execution Capture design use scenarios and drives the translation of user requirements into engineering specifications Coordinate with engineering leadership and project managers to adequately staff projects Coordinate with project managers to establish the work break down, milestones, and schedule for meeting the expected timeline Assess and communicate the technical risk throughout the project Ensure adequate technical rigor is applied to each technical discipline activities Deliver reliable product that meets all established user requirements within the cost and schedule constraints Drive and create methods of system design verification at all stages of development Collect, maintain, and disseminate the technical knowledge that the project learns Has no direct reports: design authority is through knowledge and leadership, not position Drives benchmarking against competitors and parallel products Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering; an advanced degree is preferred Minimum of 15 years of experience in electro-mechanical-digital product development design is required Must have experience successfully launching high volume consumer products containing electrical, mechanical and digital subsystems Control loop theory expertise Fault-tree analysis expertise Understands the organization’s risk tolerance for the project Ability to describe and identify points of uncertainty, potential points of failure, and overall risk Ability to describe the data and power flow between components and subsystems Predict reuse and maintenance of newly developed subsystems Ability to make sense of complex and overwhelming sets of data and makes it useful to team members and stakeholders Knows when its right to change course
