We are looking for university student Coops and interns to support our Transmission and Distribution Asset Management department!

A Coop or intern student support ing T&D Asset Management you will :

  • Support engineers on a variety of electric infrastructure projects designing future state distribution and transmission power systems.

  • Develop unique solutions to gather, store , an d utilize electrical asset data implemented and collected in the field to improve data driven decision making.

  • Create and maintain electrical models using power flow software such as PSSE and CYME.

  • Participat e in root cause analyses (RCAs) for significant T&D equipment failures

  • Support development and updates to Asset Life Cycle Plans (ALCP) for critical asset classes

  • Work in an Agile, collaborative environment partnering with technicians, engineers, regulatory experts and businesspeople of all backgrounds and disciplines to solve complex problems

  • Attend substations or other engineering sites to v erify electric facilities through field research and learn about complex T&D systems

  • Participate in formalized AES-specific learning opportunities to further your knowledge and under standing towards accelerating the responsible energy transition

  • Network with peers, AES leaders, and other like-minded employees in dedicated events, lunch and learns and speaker series’

  • Use industry leading software to study potential problems on the electrical grid and proactively propose solutions

  • Actively engage in open discussion s to identify ways the company can improve to be better prepared for the future of the energy world

Who Y ou A re

The successful candidate should be a student who meets the following required qualifications:

  • Sophomore standing or higher a s of position start date

  • Pursuing a four-year ABET accredited degree in Electrical Engineering , Electrical Engineering Technology , or other related engineering discipline

  • Ability to break down and deeply understand complex problems and communicate complex matters efficiently

  • Strong problem-solving skills, optimizing for the simplest, most robust yet practical solutions

  • Reliable, dependable, trustworthy, participating team member

  • Smart but humble, with a bias for action

Desired Qualifications

  • Team player and significant team project work

  • Exceptional attention to detail , organization, and presentation skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

  • U nderstanding of electrical engineering concepts such as reliability, load flow, stability, short circuit, voltage regulation, transients, power factor, losses, etc.

  • Experience or proficiency in Python, R, or other programming languages

  • Any e xperience in AutoCAD or other power system transmission analysis tool such a s PSSE, TARA, CAPE, EMS etc.

  • Ability to confidently present solutions to a larger group
