ECHO is hiring in our Engineering department! We are searching for an experienced Electrical Engineer to support the design and development of cordless (battery powered) products. The electrical engineer will play a key role in the design, development, testing and validation of cordless technologies and subsystems including batteries, chargers and motors and motor controls. Duties/Responsibilities:
The Electrical Engineer – Cordless Products will be responsible for:
- Driving the development and integration of electronic subsystems including batteries, chargers as well as the development of battery powered products.
- Leading segments of the concept, design, development and testing process, completing assigned tasks, assisting other members of the team, and maintaining project schedules.
- Partnering cross-functionally with product marketing and others to support the development and definition key customer requirements and translating these into appropriate product specifications.
- Constructing components or assemblies as required in the development and approval process.
- Supporting the development of test systems to ensure performance and customer expectations are met.
- Performing engineering analysis in design of new products and their subcomponents.
- Ensuring that project meets requirements of specifications and standards and that key components and subsystems meet cost, performance and reliability goals.
- Interfacing with purchasing and helping to manage and develop key vendor relationships and the selection and approval of critical component parts and assemblies.
- Supporting competitive product analysis and the development of key application performance targets
- Preparing written documentation of processes, material requirements, test results and project activity as required.
- Performing root cause analysis and troubleshooting on the new and existing products and processes.
- Providing Engineering support to Sales/Marketing and Manufacturing on new and existing products and processes.
- Consulting with Product/Project Management to discuss product requirements and specifications when design or manufacturing problems are involved.
- Provide information and direction to supporting personnel such as Engineers, Designers, and Technicians.
- Follow established procedures for creation and maintenance of CAD databases and libraries.
- Participate in the review of engineering drawings prior to the release to manufacturing and suppliers.
Job Experience/Skills:
- Experience working with lithium-ion batteries, battery management systems including protection ICs, Chargers, Fuel gauges and battery testing and validation.
- 3-5 years of Electrical Engineering experience in a related field (preferably in the OPE or power tool industries)
- Hands on experience with product concept development, proto-typing, product testing, data collection and definition of product specifications.
- Electrical design (DC), schematic, PCB layout, routed cables, wire harness assemblies.
- Solid understanding of power electronics fundamentals applied to DC and AC motors and controls.
- Electronic packaging and enclosure design.
- Diagnosing supplier quality issues.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and collaboration across project teams.
- Experience managing projects including identifying project and schedule risks and implementing risk reduction plans.
- Mechanical design, 3D CAD (Solid Works).
- Tolerance analysis, GD&T, assembly tolerance stack-up.
- Part drawings, Assembly drawings, BOM’s.
- ERP, ECO’s, documentation.
- DFMA Design for Manufacturing and Assembly.
- FEA & CFD experience.
- Experience with plastic injection molded part design and manufacturing.
- Experience in interpreting industry standards and working with certification agencies.
- Willingness to develop a solid understanding of end user needs and key product applications.
- Ability to conduct competitive product analysis.
Education:
- BS in Electrical Engineering or BS in Mechanical Engineering with experience in electrical products design
