Our high-performance systems drive innovation in energy efficiency, consumer electronics and network storage and allow our customers to maximize productivity and achieve lower cost of ownership.

Veeco has an opening in Plainview, NY, for a skilled and experienced Electrical Engineer to participate in the delivery of NPD, ETO, and CIP work for compound semiconductor capital equipment. This role provides A/C power distribution design and troubleshooting, motion control and robotics, specification and incorporation of OEM power supplies and controllers, and many other areas of design.

Responsibilities:

  • Executes engineering projects using Veeco product life cycle process to develop engineering design specifications (EDS), scopes of work (SOW), and project plans.
  • Participates in new product design, upgrade, obsolescence, and sustaining development activities utilizing CAD & Microsoft Office tools, including engineering drawing creation and changes, as well as BOM and ECN/ECO creation.
  • Designs for control, A/C power and overall system, including creation of system and subsystem-level schematics.
  • Participates in a culture of collaborative thinking, excellence, accountability, and integrity.
  • Communicates effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Helps define design specifications based on customer requirements.
  • Integration, design, and test of motion control system hardware and software.
  • Evaluation of designs to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Develops system test procedures.
  • Supports Production and Field Service through hands-on and remote troubleshooting of systems.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of related experience or a Master’s degree and a minimum of 3 years of experience is required. Direct commercial experience working in semiconductor capital equipment or a similar technical field is a plus. Experience with AutoCAD is a must as is experience using SAP or a similar MRP system.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experienced user of SolidWorks or other 3D CAD systems is a plus.
  • Capability to create, read, and troubleshoot electrical schematics.
  • Experience in designing equipment used in a cleanroom environment a plus.
  • Working capability to read and understand mechanical drawings.
  • Previous experience with A/C power distribution and panel layout design.
  • Motion control experience a plus.
  • PLC programming experience a plus.
  • Experience with vacuum equipment or robotics preferred.
  • CE, UL, TUV, and RoHS regulatory experience preferred.
  • Experience developing capital equipment in the semiconductor industry a plus.
  • A critical thinker, always anticipating holistic system effects of localized design decisions, challenging design concepts and analyzing best alternatives.
  • Ability to multi-task and work with a cross-functional team in a matrixed organization.
  • Can anticipate and resolve roadblocks.
  • Can expertly manage customer expectations.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications, including MS Project or similar.
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
