Duties include troubleshooting installing and calibrating over current relays; do maintenance on 4160 VAC & 12470 VAC breakers.
Installs electrical equipment, controls, distribution systems and related component parts; repairs and installs power and service equipment at medium and low voltage from power terminals throughout the Power Plant; maintains, repairs, install, alters and modifies wiring circuits; bend, thread and install conduit and associated circuits and cables, relocating and splicing of existing electrical systems within the Power Plant and campus utilidors.
Installation of cable tray systems, fiber optic and other low voltage cables in the Plant.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Hours 8:00 am to 4:30 pm (unless otherwise informed).

Our electricians play an important role in maintaining our ability to provide consistent power to campus to support all of these activities.Under the direction of the Utilities Maintenance Superintendent and guidance from the Electrical Engineer, the CT3 Electrician installs, modifies, repairs, and performs diagnostic evaluation, troubleshooting, and periodic and unscheduled maintenance on the full range of electrical and solid state analog electronic equipment common to power producing stations.The CT3 Electrician performs analysis and troubleshooting and coordinates repairs of complex electrical equipment and/or systems at low, medium and high voltages.This is the highest skill level in the craft and trade classifications.
Employees in this classification may be directed to assume sole project responsibility in completing complex projects.KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:Knowledge of principles, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical systems and equipment, electrical hazards and safety precautions, for medium & low voltage systems.Skilled in installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment.Ability to read, interpret and work from plans, drawings and specifications; make rough sketches; follow oral and written directions; must be willing to work around and/or be trained in the abatement of asbestos containing materials.Education/ experience sufficient to perform the responsibilities of the position and to have acquired the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.Assist in responding to power outages and trouble calls and perform other skilled and semi-skilled maintenance tasks as required.Work cooperatively with other electrician, trades, operators and office personnel.TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:Required to have and maintain a valid State of Alaska Certificate of Fitness for Journeyman Electrician, or equivalent.Qualified applicants for this position must have the ability to do the work of a Power Plant Electrician without more than Normal Supervision.
This ability is demonstrated by having performed the following duties, as a journeyman, under close supervision: maintain and repair power system generating plants, including analog electronic technology; diagnose, evaluate, and troubleshoot complex electrical equipment, control circuitry, and large power apparatus.
These duties must have been performed in a hydroelectric, steam generating, or commercial heavy industrial plant.
